WeStreet Credit Union company history timeline

1943

Our story began on August 6, 1943, when six federal employees combined their savings in a cigar box.

Since 1943, generations of members have passed down investments, savings, and financial knowledge to their children and grandchildren, making Tulsa FCU a part of their family legacy.

1955

The ground work was set and on August 3, 1955, twenty-two people attended a meeting at which Edward Davis, Reverend H.J. Eggleston, Kiyoshi Kamitake, Tetsuo Kawasaki, James Mizoguchi, Alan Sueda and Doctor Fumio Tsuji were elected as the credit union’s first Board of Directors.

In 1955, a group of civic-minded business people met at the old Kahului Store (also known as the Masonic building) for the purpose of forming a credit union to meet the financial needs of the people in Kahului.

1956

So in July 1956, Florence Hashimoto, wife of the Treasurer of the Board of Directors, Mutsuo Hashimoto, became the credit union’s first employee.

1960

On August 9, 1960, the Kahului Community FCU was granted an expansion to its field of membership to include the Kuau, Upper and Lower Paia, and Spreckelsville areas.

By 1960, the credit union had grown to $100,000 in assets.

1970

It wasn’t until 1970 that the credit union finally found a permanent home.

1971

Since the credit union had expanded to serve several communities, the Board of Directors submitted a request for a name change, and in September 1971, the credit union officially became the “Kahului Federal Credit Union”.

1978

From its humble beginnings in 1978 with a little over 1,000 runners the Tulsa Run has been a marquee event in the Tulsa Community.

1980

By 1980, when the credit union celebrated its 25th anniversary, it had reached $5,000,000 in assets.

1995

In December 1995, the credit union had a grand re-opening of its newly renovated office as you see it today.

In 1995 the credit union changed its name to West Branch Valley Federal Credit Union to be more representative of its membership area.

2010

On Tuesday, July 27, 2010 West Branch Valley Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors adopted to convert its charter status from a multiple-employer group charter to a community charter.

2011

Buddy and Phil Hart helped grow the credit union and lead the board until CEO / President Greg Gallant was brought on in 2011.
