2008

In 2008, it was nominated for a Crunchie Award for "Best New Startup."

2010

By 2010, it had been used by over one million people.

2011

In the middle of 2011, the Tumblr website secured venture capital worth over $40 million in order to allow the website to grow.

2013

Tumblr finally agreed on a deal with Yahoo! for $1.1 billion, and the news was announced in May 2013.

2014

Unsurprisingly, the “ad-free” promise was broken, and by 2014, native ads were introduced to the site.

2016

In a blog post from 2016, Karp said that the company was planning on developing new tools to help users and brands better connect and then "monetize that connection." The site has also been focusing more closely on branded content by allowing companies to pay to promote their posts on the platform.

2017

As of January 2017, Tumblr was ranked as the 45th most popular website in the world according to Alexa rankings.

After Yahoo was acquired by Verizon in 2017, Tumblr, and its problems, came along with it.

2018

3, 2018 Tumblr’s CEO Jeff D’Onofrio said in a post that as of Dec.17, 2018, the platform would flag any and all adult content, citing instances of child abuse specifically as their reasoning for the ban.
