Turlock Irrigation District company history timeline
Back in 1887, frustrated by the lack of reliable river water but optimistic about future farming opportunities, the region formed TID in the hope of bringing prosperity to a dry land nestled between the Tuolumne, Merced and San Joaquin rivers.
The Jubilee which signalized the completeion was celebrated in Modesto in 1904.
Thomas W. Patterson purchased the land from stockholders and started the Patterson Ranch company in 1908.
1908 - The land was sold to the Patterson Ranch Company for the sum of $540,000 cash gold coin.
1910 – The Patterson Water Company was formed to handle the irrigation of the lands and develop the irrigation system.
The bottom photo shows the original Don Pedro Dam, a concrete arch structure that was completed in 1924 above the site of LaGrange Dam on the Tuolumne River.
The original concrete dam, which created Don Pedro Reservoir, was replaced by a larger earthen dam in 1970.
Don Pedro Reservoir and Dam, dedicated in 1971 and owned by MID and TID, were built for water storage, power generation and recreation.
The water story opened a new chapter in 1994 when MID began operating the Modesto Regional Water Treatment Plant.
In late 2003, PID stepped aside and allowed TID to take over the WPA positions in all agreements with PG&E. In December of 2003 TID became the retail energy provider for a majority of Western Stanislaus County including the PID service area, the City of Patterson and the Diablo Grande development.
On December 15, 2015, the MID Board of Directors approved MID's 2015 Agricultural Water Management Plan inclusive of revised Conservation Program Guidelines.
