The successful tutor candidate will be an experienced tutor that will work with students either one-on-one or in small groups and provide academic support to promote student retention. Tutors will be required to complete all levels of Chemeketa's tutor training program, which is certified through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Trained tutors serve as mentors to student tutors and work closely with department staff to carry out the Tutoring Services' mission. Based on department need, tutors may be hired to work at the Salem Campus, Yamhill Valley Campus, Polk Center, or Woodburn Center.

About the Position
Springfield Public Schools seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Temporary, Part-Time (0.4 FTE) High School Academic Interventionist (Title 1 Teacher) at Gateways High School. Academic Interventionists fill the role traditionally referred to as ‘Title I Teacher'. The Academic Interventionist must have a fundamental understanding of the concepts of RtI associated with reading instruction. This includes tiered structures and how interventionist and special education staff fit into building-wide supports for students. The Academic Interventionist is a critical member of the building level literacy team and specialist team. It is an expectation that the Interventionist will inform building wide instructional practices, guide grade level academic teams, and provide direct support for students who require supplemental instruction.
The individual in this position will:
Provide reading and writing instruction to high school students at the alternative education school, with a focus on students who are below grade level or have experienced continued failure in core ELA courses.
Provide whole-class literacy instruction aligned with individual student needs.
Develop and implement the Title I intervention plan for the school.
Test students for placement and progress monitoring using appropriate literacy assessments.
Track and analyze student data to adjust instruction and support.
Collaborate with teachers and support staff to align instruction and interventions.
Participate in MTSS/RTI processes and support Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Understanding of the critical aspects of MTSS structures and practices. This includes RtI and PBIS
Knowledge and experience with elementary-aged students
Ability to effectively manage and supervise students and their work
Ability to instruct in a small group setting

Upward Bound Tutors work individually and with small groups of UB high school students to assist with their studies in Math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus) Science (biology, chemistry, physics, and anatomy/physiology) and English/Writing over the course of the term (week 2 through week 10) to help them better understand course material and prepare for assignments and exams. The substitute teacher responds to requests for substitutes and effectively fulfills the duties of a licensed teacher on a temporary basis. Most shifts are for a full day.

Provide responsible and reliable coverage for absent staff members and teachers.
Respond to occasional urgent early morning (5:00 am) and late-night requests for coverage.
Carefully read and follow sub plans provided by teachers.
Have the ability to improvise sub plans if absent teacher is unable to provide plans.
Salary: $240/day for subs with an unrestricted teaching license
$211/day for subs eligible for a restricted substitute license
