NWACC employees are dedicated to fostering a diverse educational community and cultural learning environment that supports student success. As a service of the NWACC Library and under the direction of the Outreach Librarian, peer tutors support student learning and academic success in specific subject areas and courses. Tutoring is conducted individually and in small groups, face-to-face in Benton and Washington County locations and online, following established tutoring standards and best practices. Tutors become familiar with the curriculum, course materials, and assignments, and they model effective study skills and demonstrate use of technology, software, and equipment when applicable. Work schedule: up to 19 hours per week Monday through Saturday. Each semester, the schedule is determined by need at both Benton County and Washington County locations for regular weekly hours. Online appointments are conducted on campus. Essential Duties: Assists students individually and in small groups on a walk-in basis in approved subject areas in support of student courses and learning Utilizes videoconferencing software to offer effective and engaging virtual tutoring sessions by appointment, adapting materials and methods to the online environment Offers guidance and support to students, facilitates group discussions among students, and directs them to additional study resources and other student success resources Tailors instructional techniques to individual or small group needs Tracks usage of tutoring services and maintains accurate records, including student sign-in Maintains reliable and consistent work hours Participates in staff meetings, training activities, and professional development opportunities May develop and present student workshops May be cross trained on Library and Learning Commons front desk duties Follows College and Library policies and procedures Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to support the goals and objectives of the department and college Rate of Pay: $14.00 per hour Completed applications received by 10/6/2025 will be assured full consideration. Minimum Qualifications: College transcript demonstrating a minimum of 12 completed hours with an overall GPA of at least 3.0 Proven skill in content field, demonstrated by at least one of the following: College-level academic record in specific courses with a “B” or better in the course to be tutored Letter of recommendation from a college instructor who teaches in the discipline(s) to be tutored ACT or SAT score earned within the last 5 years; or NWACC provided testing Availability to work within the library schedule Preferred Qualifications: College transcript demonstrating a minimum of 12 completed hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher Prior tutoring or teaching experience preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent communication skills Ability to engage with and teach diverse student populations Ability to convey information effectively Skill in demonstrating key academic concepts to facilitate student understanding Physical Demands/Work Environment The following physical activities described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
