This position is for a teaching assistant who will help to: set up laboratory experiments using accelerometers and other vibration measurement and excitation devices for ME EN 531, help students and answer questions related to data acquisition using Siemens TestLab systems, and answer general questions about vibrations and about the design and execution of structural dynamic tests.
What you'll do in this position:
* Help answer student questions related to structural dynamic testing such as: how to perform various operations in the Siemens TestLab software, how to tell if the system is working and the measurements are reasonable, how to diagnose problems, how to export data to Matlab and/or Python for analysis, how to post process measurements, etc.
* Answer questions regarding students' final projects, which may pertain to a wide range of dynamic systems. How to design a test appropriate for their system, troubleshooting the sensors and data acquisition, and interpret and post-process data.
* Help to set up lab experiments, by gathering hardware, mounting vibration sensors, setting up suspension systems, and verifying that all hardware is functioning.
* Answer student questions regarding vibrations theory including the transient and steady-state response of single- and multiple-degree-of-freedom systems, fast Fourier transform analysis, signal processing, modal analysis of multiple-degree-of-freedom systems, linear algebra and other topics needed to help them to complete the relevant homework.
