MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in English/language arts, ESL, or bilingual education OR a bachelor's degree or higher in English, ESL, linguistics, bilingual education, or a closely related degree, AND a valid Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification
1+ year of classroom teaching experience.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with literacy programs, testing, and specific needs of adult learners
Strong ability to teach literacy skills in both one-on-one to small group instruction
Computer skills, experience with online learning platform, Microsoft Word and Excel
Organization and attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to prioritize tasks.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Fluent in Spanish
Familiarity with adult education
3+ years of experience working with alternative education or "at-risk" populations.
Experience with adult education practices and computer-based learning.
Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Language Arts, or a related field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
40 hours per week: Monday and Wednesday 8am-4pm, Tuesday 9am-8pm, Thursday 11am-8pm, and Friday 10am-noon.
Location: Primarily at the Benton Harbor Service Center, with travel to off-site locations as needed. Mobile site locations to be assigned by Adult Education Manager
