Successful candidates will have safety as their number 1 priority and previous experience with heavy steel fabrication. Successful candidates will have at least 5 years of experience in flux core welding. Day and night shift positions available on a 4/10 schedule. Day's, Monday - Thursday 6:00 am - 4:30 pm. Nights, Monday - Thursday 4:30 pm - 3:00 am. There will be a flux core weld test in the vertical and overhead position using .052 wire. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools Move parts into position, manually or with hoists or cranes Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes Tack-weld fitted parts together Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches Locate and mark work piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces to cut, bend, and straighten metal Set up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences Straighten warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches or straightening presses.     Job Description REPORTS TO: Manufacturing and Fabrication Manager FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt This position organizes, coordinates, and tracks the activities of the welding department for custom equipment and fabrication projects. In addition to welding tasks, this person is responsible for driving target completion times for jobs by communicating targets, monitoring progress, and helping remove obstacles. The welding lead will be responsible for most day-to-day activities from balancing time to reordering supplies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all duties of Welding. Attend and contribute to all project stand-up meetings on the shop floor working closely with other departments to identify and mitigate scheduling conflicts and resource conflicts. Look ahead to verify/obtain all personnel, materials, equipment and consumables prior to start of a job. Prioritize work through the area based on project requirements and schedule. Assign appropriate personnel to tasks based on skill level, training, and work content to drive efficiency and hit project labor targets. Review all jobs, including the shop traveler and all referenced documents prior to the assignment of the task and communicate necessary details to personnel performing the work. Responsible for control of workmanship and quality of fabrication. Ensure accuracy of capturing applied labor in the ERP system for all their team members. Recommend and evaluate new equipment, tooling, and methods to improve efficiency, safety, and quality. Reports equipment and tooling needs to manager in a timely manner or take steps to repair as appropriate. Ensure machinery is both used and maintained in a safe manner per governmental regulations and company policies. Responsible at times for plant start-up, shutdown and security. Actively participate and support Lean initiative and foster a culture of continuous improvement while maintaining area of responsibility in an organized, safe, and clean condition.
