Twister operator job description

The purposes of the Twister Operator is to Supply the twisting machine with raw fiber needed, Patrol, service and monitor continuously the twisting machine, its processes, and the quality of product. Remove the twisted product from the machine and place on buggies or boxes as instructed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

* Follow all Safety, Plant & Quality Guidelines
* Acquire Raw Yarn Buggy from that machines bullpen. Do not pull yarn from neighboring machines.
* Verify the case label with the spec sheet for that machine.
* Doff the TNH packages according to the doff schedule posted on each machine.
* Remove the remaining package from the bucket and place in the adjacent creel.
* Tie the creel yarn in using a Weavers Knot with ¼ to ½ tails.
* Refill the bucket with Raw Yarn from the Raw Yarn Buggy for that machine.
* Replace empty yarn tubes with replacement packages of yarn.
* Compare every tubes merge # to the spec sheet as you place them in the bucket.
* Put tube caps on raw yarn in creel if specified on spec sheet.
* Repair and restart immediately any position that breaks out.
* Keep every position running at all times unless you are working on it.
* Tag any position that needs repair.
* Remove TNH yarn from the conveyor.
* Place the TNH yarn on a buggy or pack in a box as instructed by spec sheet and/or the supervisor.
* Clean your assignment and work area toward the end of each shift.

Performance Expectations (if applicable):

* Ability to read and follow printed & spoken instructions & specifications.
* Able to stand for long periods of time.
* Hand dexterity sufficient to handle packages and operate splicer or tie weavers knots as specified.
* Able to lift & place numerous 12-20 lb. packages per shift

Experience/Education Requirements:

* High school diploma or GED preferred
* Read & Write English Instructions
* Communicate with fellow associates

Position Summary

Operator is responsible for safe and efficient operation of twisters to minimize waste yarn and achieve maximum quality and efficiency. Must follow all job procedures.

Position Responsibilities

• Patrol job creeling, doffing and repairing ends down

• Check machine I.D., job instruction sheet and cone labels at the beginning of the shift

• Remove empty clips. Replace with full Clips

• Get correct color cone (and type cone - paper, plastic or tube)and cone labels

• Stop and flag any spindle making bad packages

• Check all splices made in yarn

• Clean all yarn from doubler Clips before placing in bins

• Make sure that all ends are threaded through guides correctly

• Keep machine clean

• Remove small lap ups from spindles and rolls (Only after lock out , tag out)

• Clean all yarn from supply tubes

• Place empty supply Clips in designated area

• Keep waste yarn off floor. Place in properly labeled container

• Check splices as they are made. Make only the type of splice specified on the lot instruction sheet

• Use specified supply Clips, cone and label color only

• Clean out twister pots as needed

• Clean machines as scheduled

• Destroy all unused labels when lot has ended

• Do not pre-label cones. Label cones as doffed

• Follow correct procedure for putting up ends and starting new cones

• Perform any duties as assigned by supervisor

Essential Skills and Experience

• Standing - 7 1/2 hours concrete floor while performing duties

• Sitting - Two 20 minute breaks

• Moving - moves about in an area approximately _50’ x 75’, while performing duties;

• Moving Materials – Pushes full boxes of yarn200 – 225 lbs. around twisting department while creeling

• Hearing/Speaking - Must be able to communicate with fixer and area supervisor

• Reaching – Must reach to 6 feet while placing doffed packages on Volkmann yarn rack

• Visual Acuity - Must be able to see quality and mechanical problems. Must not be color blind

• Bending /Stooping – Frequent bending to remove packages from yarn boxes and while cleaning machines

• Lifting – Lifts a 4-1/2 lb. cone to a height of 6 feet while doffing

Beneficial Skills and Experience

• Must be able to read machinery ID and job instruction sheet.

• Must be able to communicate and understand instructions from supervisor.

• Preferred GED

• Pay up to $15.00 per hour
