1855 Brothers Mark and Lewis Samuel open M & L Samuel, a hardware and metals import/ export business in downtown Toronto, Canada.
In 1942, at the age of 24, he joined the military.
In 1950, the Waltons left Newport for Bentonville, where Sam opened Walton’s 5&10 on the downtown square.
On July 2, 1962, Sam Walton opens the first Walmart store in Rogers, Arkansas.
In 1964, the company selected a font.
The company went public in 1970, and the proceeds financed a steady expansion of the business.
