Job Title Student Lab Assistant Position Type Student Division Academic Affairs Department Engineering Job Description The Student Lab Assistant job requires duties to be performed in a very precise and accurate manner. The DLH Department of Engineering is looking for responsible, organized, and self-motivated students to work in the Hunter Strain Engineering Lab. Student Lab Assistants may work no more than 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Job Duties and Expectations
Student workers will:
* Prepare materials and assemble, disassemble, clean and store equipment needed for individual and group laboratory experiments
* Test new equipment and ensure functionality.
* Do general maintenance and clean up of all lab stations and other indicated areas
* Provide clerical support for lab instruction and maintain lab supplies stock.
* Alert faculty and office coordinator when lab supplies require ordering/re-ordering.
* Help maintain a current and running inventory of all materials
* Promote and encourage a dynamic, positive, and safe environment within the department and the lab.
* Assist students in becoming familiar with lab rules and regulations, safety equipment and safety procedures.
* Assist in departmental outreach activities.
* Provide department/lab tours, as necessary
* Assist department staff, as needed.
* All other duties as assigned.
Hours & Supervision
Student Lab Assistants will be limited to working no more than 20 hours a week. Student-workers will be supervised by the CNC Machinist & Lab Technician, and work under the direction of both faculty and staff in the department.
Required Qualifications
Students who serve in this position must:
* Be registered as a full-time student for the Fall and Spring semesters
* Be in good standing with their academic department, residential housing, and the office of student affairs.
* Be in good physical health in order to lift heavy, bulky items and walk short distances.
* Be punctual and reliable to work shifts and meetings
* Be self-motivated and able to work independently
* Be a positive representative of the university and the engineering department.

We are currently seeking a part time Lab Assistant, for middle and high school, at our upper campus. The individual in this position assists science teachers in the preparation and implementation of classroom experiments and students' labs.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
Test out new laboratory experiments in biology, chemistry and physics prior to classroom implementation.
Assist with the setting up to include but not limited to cleaning and calibrating equipment, preparing samples/ specimens, and measuring/ preparing compounds and solutions.
Assist with cleaning up of labs to include but not limited to coordinating waste management and its proper disposal.
Ensure all equipment is labeled, organized, and clean.
Assist in the caring of organisms.
Adhere to correct procedures, policies and health/ safety guidelines and assist teachers in helping students observe safety precautions during labs.
Assist students in usage of laboratory equipment (for example during IB IA experiment)
Assist the teacher during lab session, provide technical assistance to students, and general supervision of students during labs as needed.
Maintain inventory to include restocking lab materials, reagents, etc.; ensuring that all necessary materials and equipment are on hand when needed; informing science teachers when new supplies and equipment are needed; and assisting with ordering.
Help with displaying projects on boards in the science hallway.
Help organize science events such as the science fair.
