U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Leadership

Jim Rolfes, D.Mgt. is a Chief Information Officer and Chief Data Officer at Consumer Product Safety Commission and is based in Bethesda, Maryland. He has worked as IRM Advisor Director IT Incident Command Center at Bureau of Land Management; Director, IT Incident Command Center at Bureau of Land Management; and IRM Advisor/ IT Program Manager at Bureau of Land Management. Jim studied at University of Maryland University College between 1998 and 2003, University of Maryland University College between 2006 and 2010, and University of Maryland until 1998.

Jana Fong-Swamidoss is a Chief of Staff and Chief Counsel to Chairman Elliot F. Kaye at Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Nancy Lowery is a Chief Of Staff, Acting Chairman Ann Marie Buerkle at Consumer Product Safety Commission and Special Assistant to Commissioner Ann Marie Buerkle at Consumer Product Safety Commission and is based in 4330 East West Hwy, Bethesda, Maryland. She has worked as Early Intervention Liaision/Special Education Teacher at Hear to Learn, LLC; Programs Director at Vera House Inc; and District Office Director at Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle. Nancy studied at Syracuse University between 1994 and 1996 and Syracuse University between 1976 and 1980.

Sarah Klein currently serves as Chief Counsel to Commissioner Robert Adler at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The CPSC is an independent federal regulatory

agency that protects the public against unreasonable risks of injury or death from

consumer products.The CPSC has jurisdiction over thousands of types of consumer products used in and around the home, outdoors, in the workplace, and in schools. As Chief Counsel to Commissioner Adler, Ms. Klein advises the Commission on policy matters relating to consumer product safety.

Prior to joining CPSC, Ms. Klein was Senior Staff Attorney with the Food Safety Program for the Center for Science in the Public Interest. In that capacity, she represented CSPI in the regulatory arena, commenting to USDA and FDA on issues relating to food safety programs. Ms. Klein was a member of the National Meat and Poultry Advisory Committee, and served on the Executive Board of the Conference for Food Protection. She also served on the Steering Committee of a multi-stakeholder initiative developing standards for the ethical production of food.

She is the author of several food safety reports, and, most recently, a comprehensive guide to food safety titled, \'From Supermarket to Leftovers.\' Ms. Klein has appeared frequently in the national media, including CNN, The New York Times, NPR, NBC Nightly News, ABC’s Good Morning America, and others.

Prior to joining CSPI, Ms. Klein was an Assistant Attorney General with the District of Columbia Office of the Attorney General. In that capacity, she drafted consumer protection legislation that is now law in the District. She has also worked with U.S. PIRG on consumer protection issues, and the National Whistleblower Center.



Ms. Klein holds a JD from George Washington University and a Master’s Degree in Public Communications from American University. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Boston University, and is a member of the District of Columbia and Maryland Bars.
