U.S. Figure Skating company history timeline

1921

In 1921 the United States Figure Skating Association was formed and became a member of the International Skating Union.

1937

In 1937, the PSC&HS bought land from Haverford College to build our present club-owned facility in Ardmore.

1939

The All Year Figure Skating Club was formed in 1939 at what was then the Tropical Ice Gardens in Westwood Village by a small group of skaters under the leadership of Ann Rork Getty.

1948

In 19 consecutive Olympic Winter Games, at least one United States figure skater has won a medal, dating back to 1948 when Dick Button secured his first Olympic gold.

1949

In 1949 the Association transferred its offices to Chicago, Illinois.

1950

The offices were again moved, this time to Boston, in 1950.

1959

In 1959, the Eastern and Pacific Coast Sections expanded their qualifying competitions by adding three Sub-Sectionals Championships each.

1962

When sessions began in October 1962, Culver City Ice Arena became All Year’s principal skating headquarters.

In 1962, All Year’s Board of Directors learned that a new rink would be built in Culver City.

It wasn't until 1962 that the Midwestern Sectional finally added their regional championships to the qualifying competition cycle.

1968

In 1968, the Golden West Open Freeskating Championships were created.

1976

The United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame was established in 1976 to honor those who have made outstanding contributions to the sport of figure skating.

2002

But the highlight of the club’s history was hosting the 2002 State Farm United States Figure Skating Championships at Staples Center.

2006

In fact, when Rena and John competed in pairs at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, they entered the figure-skating history books by landing the first-ever throw triple axel at the Olympics.

2007

As of May 5, 2007, the Association officially adopted the name "United States Figure Skating" and dropped the abbreviated name of "USFSA".

2012

It also hosted 2012 Southwest Regional Championships.

2014

Other qualifying competitions hosted by All Year include the 2004 and 2007 Pacific Coast Adult Sectional Championships. It’s slated to host the upcoming 2014 Pacific Coast Adult Championships.

2016

Launched June 1, 2016, more than 1,000 Learn to Skate USA programs are now active in 49 states.

2018

In 2018 at the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, the United States Olympic Figure Skating Team won the bronze medal in the team event.

Team USA claimed 35 international gold medals during the 2018-19 season (all levels; includes singles, pairs, ice dance and synchronized skating).

Additionally, United States Figure Skating launched the “Figure Skating Pass” on NBC Sports Gold, NBC Sports Digital’s direct-to-consumer live streaming product, giving fans access to live and on-demand domestic and international figure skating competition beginning with the 2018-19 season.
