The Acute Registered Nurse provides acute dialysis care and treatment to patients within a hospital environment. This position performs duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse or Acute Manager, including assisting and supervising Patient Care Technicians and Licensed Vocational Nurses. Acute nurses may report directly to an Acute Manager, Administrator or the first line of regional operational management which may be an Area Director, Regional Director, or Vice President of Operations, depending on the region/demographics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties and tasks may be assigned.
GROWTH
· Assist with clinical and operational processes to improve patient health and minimize hospitalizations and rehospitalization.
· Ensure patient and treatment charge information and other related data are accurate and submitted appropriately.
· Demonstrate effective use of supplies and staff labor hours.
· May participate in inventory management, including end-of-month inventory reporting and adherence to company purchasing protocols.
· Perform duties as assigned to meet the patient care or operational needs.
OUTCOMES
· Administer medications as ordered by the physician..
· Provide patient education and follow up as needed.
· Assist with program's target goals in meeting quality metrics for patient outcomes in accordance with quality patient care and Company goals.
OPERATIONAL
READINESS
· Knowledge of and comply with federal, state, local laws and regulations, including health care professionals practice act requirements.
· Perform duties at all times within limitations established by and in accordance with company policy and procedures, hospital policy, applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
· Complete water quality verification and equipment safety checks prior to each treatment, to include second verification as required.
· Complete pre and post treatment physical assessments.
· Complete pre and post Handoff Communication with hospital nurses.
· Initiate and terminate patient treatments to include connecting and disconnecting catheters and cleaning catheter sites.
· Set up dialysis machines; report machine problems to biomedical technician and/or Acute Manager as appropriate.
· Clean, disinfect and provide quality control of dialysis machines as required by policy and procedures.
· Participate in infection control monitoring, implementation, and recording as requested.
· Use personal protective equipment as necessary.
· Be familiar with emergency equipment and all emergency operational procedures, as required by hospital.
OPERATIONAL
READINESS

· Demonstrate effective staffing based on acuity, skill mix and company guidelines.
· Ensure provision of dialysis related services such as Hemodialysis, Peritoneal dialysis, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Plasmapheresis (TPE) if contracted to do so.
· Participate in all surveys as required.
· Ensure nursing care is carried out as directed and treatment is administered in accordance with physician orders.
· Ensure appropriate and required information is documented in patient records.
· Inform Supervisor, Medical Director or Physician and Hospital Liaison of all incidents, conditions, and concerns related to patient care, staff and patient safety, and in accordance with company policy.
· Prepare and maintain dialysis machines and systems per policy: maintain dialysis records, prepare dialysis water treatment system for use according to established procedure and understand technical operations to troubleshoot problems independently.
· Notify Bio-Medical Technician regarding machine or water treatment malfunctions, values out of parameters and document as required.
PARTNERSHIPS
· Communicate results of patient assessment, reassessment, and ongoing monitoring to the physician.
· Maintain collaborative working relationship with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other hospital healthcare professionals.
· Actively promote GUEST customer service standards; develop effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
· Address patient concerns timely and professionally; following hospital policy.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT/ RETENTION
· Participate in staff meetings as required. Attend and complete all company and hospital required in-service and continuing education.
· May delegate tasks to competent licensed and unlicensed staff per applicable state practice act.
· Assist with staff training as requested.
· Lead staff in team concepts and promote a team effort.
Qualifications/Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements include:
Current RN license in applicable state or compact. License must be maintained as current and in good standing.
12 months or more current nursing experience preferred.
Previous experience in providing nursing care to patients on dialysis preferred.
CPR certification required with hospital approved program
Ability to pass color screening.
Demonstrated working knowledge of the English language and ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Must have basic computer skills; proficiency in all USRC clinical applications required within 90 days of hire.
Must meet any practice requirement(s) for the applicable state.
Ability to meet minimum hospital/agency hiring standards which may include additional background clearances and orientation requirements if applicable to the program assigned to for employment.

Performs collection job duties associated with the Core Lab.
* Demonstrates knowledge of unit specific guidelines and/or clinical conditions regarding specimen collection.
* Uses collection labels and lists to coordinate inpatient draws.
* Correctly identifies patient prior to phlebotomy.
* Correctly uses Typenex bands when appropriate.
* Performs venipuncture or capillary puncture according to procedure.
* Ensures appropriate and adequate samples are collected with minimal discomfort to the patient.
* Appropriately labels samples at patient's side.
* Understands appropriate site care and adverse reaction care.
* Communicates to support staff pertinent patient care concerns or issues.
* Utilizes pneumatic tube system for timely delivery of sample to the Core Lab (CMC site only).
* Wears pager and logs location when outside of the lab.
* Responds to Code Blue and traumas.
* Collects home draws.
* Understands priority codes and draws appropriately.
* Communicates pertinent information throughout the day and at shift changes.
Performs processing job duties associated with the Core Lab.
* Receives all specimens into the lab, making sure tests are ordered, verified, labeled and processed appropriately.
* Distributes samples to correct testing area.
* Processes, stores and completes applicable paperwork for send out tests.
* Understands and utilizes the LIS interfaces for transmittal of lab orders.
* Answers requests for patient reports.
* Packages material for shipment through various carriers (UPS, etc.).
* Inventories and maintains stock received from referral labs.
* Fills supply request for outlying areas.
* Acts as a resource person by answering questions concerning test requirements and handling.
* Maintains a clean and organized work area.
* Understands and utilizes various computer programs related to their job (Optimaxx, AS400, etc.).
* Answers incoming phone calls to the Core Lab main number.
* Performs various other clerical duties including but not limited to filing, faxing and photocopying as needed.
* Understands general registration procedures including why and when new account numbers need to be assigned.
Hours/Schedule: Second shift rotating start times (1pm-930pm and 2pm-1030pm). Every other weekend and holiday rotation.

Coordinates the telephone system for clinics by monitoring the Navigator software, providing training to staff, and assisting with changes/upgrades to the phone system. * Full time 40 hours a week
General Requirements:
* Maintains the scheduling application for the computer software.
* Works with physicians and clinic managers in establishing provider schedules.
* Maintains scheduling operations, (i.e., running schedules, opening and closing schedules).
* Assists managers in collecting scheduling data.
* Acts as the master scheduler for the clinic enterprise and serves as a resource post implementation.
* Acts as consultant to the Patient Access Assistant who maintains the scheduling activities
* Update and maintains provider call schedule.
* Creates provider weekly schedule based on provider availability.
* Communicates to all associates and departments where provider is located.
* Unlocks cupboards and re-distributes office documents.
* Maintains patient recall database and reports.
* Distributes recall letters to scheduling staff to complete. 70%
* Orients and trains on scheduling application and phone system.
* Contacts providers annually to review and upgrade templates, appointment types and other individualized information contained in their schedule.
* Annually moves the end dates of all current providers ahead and keeps a record of all providers listed in the system and the end date of their schedules.
* Maintains alphabetical and numerical lists of all current providers in the system..
* Ensures that new employees are oriented to department/job/software and that initial competency is assessed and documented.
* Provides ongoing training on equipment and procedural changes as needed.
* Coordinates activities with the Patient Access Assistant to support the needs
Education:
* High School plus specialized training (min. 6 months - 2 years): Completion of Medical Secretary program and/or equivalent training and education
* 0 - 2 years - Minimum of 2 years' experience working with provider schedules.

Position Purpose:
Responds to ambulance calls and provides patient care. Performs vehicle maintenance and assists in the Emergency Room.

* Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff, and physicians while performing their job duties.

* Ability to work with diverse groups of people; ability to work under pressure. Must pass pre-hire physical agility test. Ability to take direction.
