Your Role on the Team Gastroenterology Hospitalist position- Inpatient coverage, UCI IRVINE Hospital.

EM Academic Core Faculty Job Description
The Highland Emergency Medicine Residency Program has trained emergency physicians for over 40 years. It has been ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) accredited since 1984, and now trains 11-12 residents per class in PGY 1-4. Based in one of the West Coast's oldest public hospitals, the EM residency program is a national leader in Emergency Ultrasound, ED (Emergency Department) HIV testing and treatment, non-narcotic analgesia, ED initiated buprenorphine treatment, care of victims of sexual assault, as well as the birthplace of social emergency medicine. The program is nationally known for training emergency physicians who are clinically outstanding and can lead and thrive in any environment. Core faculty are based in the ED at Highland Hospital in Oakland, and are national leaders in their areas of expertise, highly clinically skilled, and outstanding bedside teachers. The Highland faculty is much smaller than most programs of comparable size. Therefore, the faculty group expects an elevated level of commitment to the residency program from its core members. This position both supports the delivery of high-quality patient care to our community in the East Bay and the training of future leaders in Emergency Medicine (EM) who will carry out the mission of the department and hospital. Core faculty may also be selected for their specific expertise and unique contribution to the program. Core faculty are engaged in targeted residency activities, plus additional contributions based on their expertise in EM. A component of FTE is allocated for academic work and teaching for EM core faculty.
Academic Core Faculty Clinical Requirements
Provide appropriate medical services to all patients presenting to the Emergency Department

1. Diagnose and treat patients with malignancies/cancers, including all solid tumors and hematologic malignancies such as leukemias, lymphomas and multiple myeloma.
2. Diagnose and treat patients with benign hematologic conditions including and but limiting to neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, thrombotic conditions, bleeding disorders.
3. Develop and implement personalized treatment plans, including chemotherapy, targeted therapies and immunotherapies.
4. Conduct and interpreter diagnostic tests, including bone marrow biopsies and genomic testing.
5. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care, including surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, social workers, navigators and nurses.
6. Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment options, potential side effects, and long-term management. Offer support and guidance throughout the treatment process.
7. Manage follow-up care for patients, including monitoring for recurrence of disease and managing long-term effects of treatment. Develop long-term care plans and provide support for survivorship.
8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories, treatment plans, and progress notes. Ensure compliance with medical standards and regulations
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** :

Job Summary: Under direction, provides professional medical services to patients at the Alameda Health System hospitals and clinics. Assists in the administrative and professional direction of a medical specialty service. Provides consultative services in their specialty. Assigned as an administrative and professional assistant to the chief of a specialty service and when specifically assigned, may relieve the chief of service in their absence. May directly supervise Physician I level. Performs related duties as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification, however, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
1. Cares for patients in a compassionate, culturally competent, and patient centered manner.
2. Participates in the supervision of Mid-level Practitioners/Certified Nurse Midwives in assigned clinical area.
3. Practices evidence based medicine and is up to date with current standards of care.
4. Provides cost effective care; manages time and patient flow well when providing direct care to patients and following up on patient related work.
5. Stays current with patient care responsibilities. (e.g. lab results, medication refills, and radiology reports, relevant to his/her patients).

Qualifications:

Required Licenses/Certifications: CPI-Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (required for all positions at John George Psychiatric Pavilion; and certain positions in the Emergency Department).; Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association or PALS or ACLS; a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Number.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a current valid license to practice medicine in the state of California, AND Board Certification or be Board Eligible in area of specialty.; Board Certification must be completed within three years of the date of hire.
