Summary:
Supervises the daily activities of Pharmacy Technicians and/or Pharmacy Buyers. May perform the duties of a Pharmacy Technician and/or Buyer as needed.
Requirements:
+ High School diploma or GED. Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program.
+ PHAT (Pharmacy Technician) certification from State Board of Pharmacy.
+ 3 years with PHAT (Pharmacy Technician Certification). Preferred: 2 years of leadership experience.
Responsibilities:
+ Determines, coordinates and supervises daily staffing assignments and levels. Provides direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff.
+ Assists with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. Assesses quality of services delivered and facilitates staff development programs.
+ Ensures staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures and protocols.
+ Performs staff responsibilities as needed to fulfill required service levels. Leads the handling and resolution of complex issues and complaints.
+ Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

UM Pharmacy Technician-1
Remote
The UM Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the intake and review of prior authorization requests for medications requested under the medical benefit. The UM Pharmacy Technician makes approval decisions and denial recommendations based on predetermined clinical criteria. They establish rapport with Provider offices and leverages strong communication and customer service skills when providing updates and delivering decision notifications to members and providers, The UM Pharmacy Technician position is part of multidisciplinary team and works closely with Providers, Pharmacists, and Medical Directors.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Reviews prior authorization requests and units for medications requested under the medical benefit
Assesses provider-submitted clinical information for clinical appropriateness based on predetermined clinical criteria
Sends notification to members and providers of authorization decisions via telephone, fax, or mail
Ensures prior authorization reviews are conducted within timeframes set forth by CMS and/or NYSDOH
Establishes great rapport with Provider offices via telephonic communication
Sends request for information sheets to Providers
Ensures that patient information is shared appropriately maintaining confidentiality and compliance with federal law and HIPAA regulations
Additional duties as necessary
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
Either nationally certified Pharmacy Technician in good standing (i.e., PTCB, NHA) or registered or licensed Pharmacy Technician in good standing
Experience conducting prior authorization reviews
Experience requiring written, verbal, and telephonic communication in English that is clear, concise, grammatically correct, and professional
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong written and verbal communication skills in Chinese, Spanish, or Russian
Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Team player with a passion for learning and interest in growing skills in a dynamic environment with various opportunities
Knowledge of specialty pharmaceuticals and billing practices in the medical benefit
Knowledge of regulations of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services including but not limited to National and Local

Achieve and maintain competency in at least one specialized pharmacy function, including but not limited to: vaccine administration, pharmacy buying, specialty pharmacy fulfillment, drug diversion management and REMS programs.
Specialty Technicians: Serves as a liaison between physician clinic staff, specialty pharmacy, and other stakeholders to develop and maintain a strong and collaborative partnership between the businesses. Identifies opportunities for the Stormont Vail Specialty Pharmacy to partner with prescribers in the development of new initiatives and avenues of service.
Manage and maintain medication outdates for assigned areas as required. Receive and stock the daily medication order from drug wholesaler. Operate the point-of-sale system to ring out customer transactions, including making change when required.
Check the work of other technicians and help with training new team members as applicable.

The Pharmacy Technician demonstrates consistent application of knowledge and skills in assisting the pharmacist in execution of appropriate, safe, efficacious, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care. The position participates in many procedural aspects of pharmacy practice under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist or technician supervisor and is an integral part of the pharmacy team. This position supports Pharmacy Services in all locations (i.e., acute, community, ambulatory, specialty).
**This position will work Monday - Friday, day shift (approximately 8am - 5pm). No weekends or holidays.** **The schedule will rotate with one week on-site within the cardiology clinic, and the following week remote (or at the clinic if preferred by the technician).**
Join our dynamic ambulatory pharmacy team and make a meaningful impact on patient care! In this role, you will:
+ **Support a large cardiology clinic** located on the Lutheran Hospital campus.
+ **Facilitate medication access** by managing prescription refills, prior authorizations, and manufacturer assistance programs to help overcome financial barriers.
+ **Collaborate closely** with cardiology providers, nurses, and support staff to ensure patients receive the medications they need.
+ Work as part of a **specialized team of three cardiology pharmacy technicians** , while partnering with a broader ambulatory pharmacy team that serves multiple clinics and patients across Intermountain Health.
**Essential Functions**
+ Assists with all phases of pharmacy services while under the supervision of a pharmacist as required by state of practice and job duties.
+ Answers phones and provides excellent customer service as appropriate to practice site.
+ Assists the pharmacist in collecting clinical and other patient information and maintaining appropriate records as required by regulation and policy.
+ Utilizes pharmacy technology effectively to prepare medication orders for dispensing, performs calculations as necessary, and compounds medications for accurate compounding as appropriate to practice site, in accordance with state law, policies, procedures, and protocols.
+ Attains appropriate supervision and accuracy checks by the pharmacist(s) and clearly understands when a pharmacist must verify tasks and activities.
+ Accurately fills and maintains medication supplies including verifying and monitoring controlled substance inventories to ensure security, accuracy, cost effectiveness, and 340B/Charging management as required to practice site.
+ Packages and labels medications accurately and appropriately to minimize waste as appropriate to practice site and job duties.
