MECHANICAL ENGINEER - TEST AND EVALUATION (AT):
The Mechanical Engineer - Test and Evaluation position is responsible for supporting manufacturing projects. This position combines hands-on technical work and maintenance of equipment and supplies. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, familiarity with engineering drawings and quality assurance techniques, organizational skills, in depth experience with precision machining operations, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The position is 100% on site in Indian Head, MD.
Responsibilities
- Provide highly technical expertise and guidance in solving complex engineering problems
- Perform in all phases of hardware design, development, integration/implementation, and analysis
- Plan and conduct engineering feasibility studies for the design improvement modifications and implementation of advanced technologies
- Develop standards and guidelines for tasks being performed
- Interface with government personnel
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in mechanical engineering or related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience.
Strong self-starter with the ability to lead technical efforts and work independently with minimal oversight.
Experience with DOD acquisition process, environmental testing, and systems integration testing.
Ability to define test objectives, develop test plans and procedures, analyze and interpret test data, and support failure investigations and root cause analysis.
Strong technical writing skills, with experience authoring test plans, procedures, and detailed technical reports.
Experience supporting test events at government ranges or contractor facilities.
Hands-on experience with developmental and qualification testing, including shock, vibration, thermal, and other MIL-STD test environments.
Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks)
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to independently drive tasks and lead support staff or cross-functional teams to successful completion.
In the office up to 5 days per week as required with option for situational telework.
Physical Demand:
Frequent walking, standing, and moving between workstations in the machine shop environment.
Ability to lift and move materials or parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
Regular exposure to noise, dust, and vibrations typical of a machine shop.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
Occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching to access materials or equipment.
