Bowhead is seeking an Field Electronic Security Systems (ESS) Engineer to join our team in support of our Marine Corps Electronics Security Systems (MCESS) contract in Quantico, VA. The Field Electronic Security Systems (ESS) Engineer candidate will be assigned to multiple Mission-Critical Facility Design and Construction projects for our Marine/Navy Customer as the Systems Engineer for Automated Access Control Systems and Intrusion Detection Systems supporting the Integrated Project Team. The preferred candidates will have the ability to travel up to 10-15% to CONUS and OCONUS Marine Corps Installations.
Responsibilities
Essential functions will include:
Collaborate with Project Engineers (PEs) and Regional Sustainment Technicians (RSTs) to execute ESS installations, track project milestones, and report progress.
Conduct on-site inspections of ESS installations, document findings, and ensure adherence to operational standards.
Plan and execute site surveys to assess existing conditions, gather system requirements, and support design documentation.
Address technical issues related to MCESS equipment and systems, assist in testing and validation, and contribute to long-term project planning.
Provide ongoing support to field teams and site personnel, assist with repairs and diagnostics of faulty ESS equipment, and help ensure system interoperability.
Schedule and track preventive/corrective maintenance. Deliver technician training and maintain accurate training materials.
Serve as a designated On-Site Representative (OSR), overseeing project implementation, material handling, and stakeholder coordination.
Prepare trip reports, activity summaries, and contribute to contract-related deliverables.
Facilitate site-specific permit acquisition, coordinate equipment shipments, and manage return logistics for defective hardware.
Maintain 24/7 accessibility to Government PEs and IPT for urgent support or inquiries.
Researched and specifies computing hardware for Automated Access Control Systems and Intrusion Detection Systems.
Designs, analyzes, configures, tests and troubleshoots systems, as well as providing project engineering/program management support, development and evaluation support and engineering/life cycle support of a complex nature in a narrow area of specification.
Provides Project Engineers with design recommendations.
Reviews and provides input on IPT technical processes, documentation, and templates, as needed.
Assists IPT Technical Lead in the development of the Five-Year Technical Plan.
Assists Project Engineers with design reviews, as needed.
Provides internal and external training to USMC ESS personnel and installation contractors on new technologies.
Qualifications
Minimum eight to ten (8-10) years of relevant experience
Bachelor's in Engineering preferred
Proven experience in electronic security systems (ESS), including installation, maintenance, and support
Familiarity with system testing, validation, and QA processes
Ability to travel extensively both domestically and internationally
Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Travel Requirements:
Active Passport.
Ability to travel up to 10-25%, both CONUS and OCONUS.
On some occasions, overnight travel may be required.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 10-25 pounds
Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
