About the Role:

He/she must have an enhanced knowledge in the area of sonography/ultrasound. They must have the specific expertise and skills necessary for maintaining a safe sonography/ultrasound environment daily. They must know basic anatomy, physiology and physics as it pertains to sonography/ultrasound patient care. Responsibilities Provides imaging services and transportation to patients of all ages; including neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Provides patients and families with thorough explanations and adequate communication. Upholds all safety standards related to assigned position. Follows the established protocols, practices and guidelines for assigned area of expertise to provide quality service. Observes JCAHO standards. Uses I Care principles to ensure proper patient identification, correct exam, and to improve patient communication and engagement. Prioritizes customer and patient satisfaction and utilizes AIDET principles. Works with other departments, modalities and personnel to provide above average care to patients and families. Practices good stewardship with supplies, equipment and department resources to assist in maintaining the financial viability of the DCH Health System. Understands clinical history, supply and exam charges. Follows billing practices. Correlates clinical history with the exam(s) being performed. Performs duties necessary to maintain accreditation. Maintains a safe and clean ultrasound environment. Participates in ultrasound QC and completes appropriate documentation for all ultrasound equipment. Works with the manager/supervisor/staff to control and maintain inventory and supplies and communicates problems and supply needs as required. Understands, utilizes and takes responsibility for the care, cleaning and maintenance of all imaging, transport and office supplies, equipment and software as required by assigned area. Instructs and supervises student technologists and new employees as assigned. Any job assignment requiring call during off duty hours becomes part of that duty and will be compensated as is customary for the hospital. A charge tech or lead tech when assigned must facilitate and coordinate services for their area of assignment and serve as a contact person for radiologist, physician's offices and other departments within the DCH System. Keep other shifts informed of any changes in protocol, equipment issues and other functions that may impact the shift/department. Monitor the functions of the area of expertise and/or imaging department needs as necessary. Per Diem staff must work one holiday in a calendar year and at least once during a 90 day period. Per Diem staff must notify the person in charge of any unavailability. If after four requests are made with a per diem employee declining work; that employee's per diem position will be reviewed and removed from payroll. Per Diem staff must submit a two-week notice of resignation. Functions proficiently in specified area with little or no supervision. DCH Standards: Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation. Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Fulfills education requirements for assigned position including DCH Health System and Imaging required CBT's, in-services, meetings and educational sessions. Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self. Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet. Must fulfill the graduation and registration requirements as follows: Ultrasound Technician/Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Must be registry eligible by the ARDMS. Should obtain certification as RDMS and RVT (RVS) within 24-months of eligibility. New hire registered sonographers must be RDMS and RVT (RVS) within 12 months of hire date. RDMS - must have current ultrasound registration by the ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers). Should obtain RVT (RVS) certification within 24-months of eligibility. Shift: PRN Goal This is a technical position to operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment and perform ultrasound procedures on various anatomical internal organs, peripheral vessels, fluid accumulations, masses and developing fetuses. To report preliminary findings, measurements and diagnoses to the Radiologist. To record scanned ultrasound images and transfer to PACS for interpretation after checking image quality. In addition to scanning, the duties include chart review, maintaining data logs as required. Sonographers are expected to provide clinical information pertinent to the exams performed for the Radiologist. Position Responsibilities: Demonstrate the ability to perform quality and timely routine diagnostic ultrasound studies and render accurate written summaries. Demonstrate the ability to perform quality vascular studies. Assist the radiologists and/or other physician during procedures by providing assistance with equipment and by providing adequate and appropriate supplies needed to complete the procedure. Participate in the care of the equipment by proper usage and storage of the probes, and maintaining the cleanliness of equipment. Complete and close out all procedures in the computer system daily. Participate in on-call schedule as department needs. Must respond to initial call back within 30 minutes and arrive at hospital within 45 minutes Experience: Six months of formal training that includes hands on clinical applications Education: Graduate of an approved school for Diagnostic Ultrasound with a minimum of 6 months formal training in Ultrasound preferred. IS ELIGIBLE FOR A SIGN ON BONUS UP TO $10,000.00* Shift: 8:30AM - 5:00PM ET Monday-Friday Goal This is a technical position to operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment and perform ultrasound procedures on various anatomical internal organs, peripheral vessels, fluid accumulations, masses and developing fetuses. To report preliminary findings, measurements and diagnoses to the Radiologist. To record scanned ultrasound images and transfer to PACS for interpretation after checking image quality. In addition to scanning, the duties include chart review, maintaining data logs as required. Sonographers are expected to provide clinical information pertinent to the exams performed for the Radiologist. Position Responsibilities: * Demonstrate the ability to perform quality and timely routine diagnostic ultrasound studies and render accurate written summaries. * Demonstrate the ability to perform quality vascular studies. * Assist the radiologists and/or other physician during procedures by providing assistance with equipment and by providing adequate and appropriate supplies needed to complete the procedure. * Participate in the care of the equipment by proper usage and storage of the probes, and maintaining the cleanliness of equipment. * Complete and close out all procedures in the computer system daily. * Participate in on-call schedule as department needs. Must respond to initial call back within 30 minutes and arrive at hospital within 45 minutes Experience: Six months of formal training that includes hands on clinical applications Education: Graduate of an approved school for Diagnostic Ultrasound with a minimum of 6 months formal training in Ultrasound preferred. Special Qualifications: Required: * Must have or be eligible for Registry in Abdomen and OB ultrasound. * Registry required within 2 years. * BLS certification required Preferred: * Vascular registry preferred. * Proficient in all areas of diagnostic ultrasound. He/she performs diagnostic ultrasound exams as ordered under the supervision of a radiologist. He/she will train personnel as directed by Imaging Services Department Manager or Director. Responsibilities Performs ultrasound studies: abdominal, retroperitoneal, obstetrics/gynecology, small parts, neonatal, vascular and endocavity. Correlates clinical history with the test to be performed. Maintains CEUs required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Provides clinical instruction of ultrasound students and other healthcare professionals. Provides imaging services through knowledge of PACS system to patient of all ages including maternal, neonate, and infants, pediatrics, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Performs duties necessary to maintain accreditation. Provides safe radiology services to self, patients and co-workers. Responds timely to all forms of communication. Provides assistance for patients and their families in the department and during transport as appropriate, including any observed needs of the patients. Must be efficient in the use of all transport equipment, office equipment and related material essential to good patient care and reports any problems when necessary. Takes responsibility for care, cleaning and maintenance of transport equipment used in the transport of patients. Takes responsibility for supplies used in the transport of patients; i.e. O 2 cylinders, warm blankets, etc. DCH Standards: Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation. Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self. Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet. Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). BLS required. Previous experience preferred. Must have working knowledge of ultrasound equipment, NIV equipment & accessories, cameras, patient procedural and patient care items, telephone, computer and calculator. Must have obtained certification as RDMS. Must obtain certification as RVT (RVS) within twenty-four (24) months of hire date. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
