Provide ultrasound imaging services to patients in accordance with physicians orders. Prepare ultrasound rooms and diagnostic equipment. Perform high quality testing, operating equipment according to prescribed safety standards, and develop films. Exercise professional judgment and uphold medical ethics in performance of diagnostic services. Apply knowledge of the principles of growth and development to identify requirements relative to age specific patients. Maintain strict patient and staff confidentiality.
Essential Responsibilities:
Diagnostic Testing: Performs quality images through clinical protocols and positions patients to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patients comfort and ability. Demonstrates knowledge to perform Ultrasound procedures with appropriate equipment. Develops films in accordance with radiographic techniques. Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide radiology services to all age groups served. Provides patient education on procedures according to age-specific needs. Facilitates patients cooperation and alleviates anxiety by addressing concerns. Verifies appropriate procedure to be performed by checking physicians orders and outpatient prescriptions. Contacts physicians with discrepancies. Ensures appropriate documentation is completed prior to procedure. Assist Radiologists with procedures as needed.
Computer System: Ensures patient information is accurately inputted into departmental computer system. Checks-in patients for the appropriate radiological procedure, as directed in IDX-Rad. Selects the correct account during check-in, as directed in IDX-Rad. Completes patient procedure, as directed in IDX-Rad.
Customer Service: Provides timely, responsive, expert services to customers in a positive friendly manner, to include patient, physicians, and other fellow employees. Informs consumers and those accompanying them when delays exist and how they are being addressed. Promotes patient focused care throughout daily activities. Provides quality patient care to include preparation, scheduling, and teaching all types of patient procedures as needed. Maintains strict patient and employee confidentiality, as appropriate.
Patient and Employee Safety: No deviation from written procedures in Policy and Procedure Manual on radiation safety rules. Performs all necessary equipment checks prior to use, thereby protecting patient and staff safety. Ensures patient and regulatory standards are adhered to and suggests ways to improve patient outcomes when indicated. Completes quality assurance and quality control activities as appropriate. Establishes patients identification. Ensures no repeat studies due to failure to check armband and/or properly identified patient. Observes patient during procedures and reports any unusual occurrences or changes in patients condition to appropriate personnel. Ascertains allergy status on patients, for patients receiving medications. Demonstrates educated and rapid response to contrast reactions as outlined in Policy and Procedure Manual. Assists in performing first aid as necessary, including Code 199 procedures and locating equipment on crash carts.
General Behavior: Observes patient during procedures and reports any unusual occurrences or changes in condition. Arrives at the start of the assigned shift ready to begin work; takes lunch and breaks at appropriate times, and leaves work at the end of the assigned shift. Maintains neat, clean and well stock radiology room. Identifies staff training issues and participates in Policy and procedures development as appropriates. Communicates concerns as appropriate to lead technologists and management. Works as an effective team member with other colleagues to efficiently perform radiological procedures. Rotates shifts and assignments as required. Rotation will include surgery and portables for Specialty and Hospital staff. Takes stand-by call as assigned. Regulatory: Adheres to Cooperative-wide Personal Protection Equipment, Universal Precautions, Related Medical Waste (RMW), Infection Control, Safety, and other OSHA Policies and Procedures.

An UltrasoundTechnologist II works with the Medical Imaging leadership and medical director to develop operating policies and procedure. Technologist II is responsible for performing the diagnostic and interventional exams in either diagnostic medical sonography or echocardiography, and also performs vascular ultrasound exams, (has RVT or RVS advanced certification), within these established guidelines. Serves as a role model and resource within the department. Note: In order to qualify for US Tech II, technologist must be actively performing vascular studies.
*This position will primarily provide hospital Ultrasound coverage.
Per Diem / Variable Shifts
Qualifications:
AA/BA/BS degree through an accredited ultrasound or echo program, or satisfactory completion of a formal military or hospital-based ultrasound training program required.
RDMS (Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or RVS (Registered Vascular Sonographer from the CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) registry is required. Requires successful completion of a minimum of 1 physics registry exam, and a minimum of one specialty exam, E.g. Echo, OB or abdomen. Annual renewal of RDMS or RVS required by Overlake Hospital, with evidence of same by primary source verification.
RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) or RVS (Registered Vascular Sonographer) advanced certification required.
Previous hospital experience preferred.
Previous vascular experience required.
Previous supervisory experience preferred for lead position.

Job Summary:
Performs diagnostic ultrasound exams in accordance with ARDMS standards and ethics. The Ultrasonographer complies with company policies and procedures to include regulatory changes and prescribed safety standards with the needs of the patient and physician in mind. Responsibilities include integrating scientific knowledge and technical skills with effective patient interaction to provide quality patient care, and useful diagnostic information.
Essential Job Functions:
Prepares patient for ultrasound exam with thorough explanation of the procedures and clear instructions.
Obtains a thorough patient history as it relates to the exam to be completed.
Reviews the patient's chart and physician's request to determine optimal scanning parameters for suspected pathology. Verifies the patient consented to the procedure and fully understands its risks, benefits, alternatives and follow-up.
Accurately implements the orders of the referring physician.
Able to perform examinations of the Abdomen, Pelvis, OB, Small Parts & Vascular structures with accuracy.
Able to present ultrasound examinations to the Radiologist in a professional precise manner.
Assists patient to scanning table. Positions patient and equipment and utilizes the appropriate ultrasound devices, ultrasonic frequencies and appropriate transducers in accordance with the ultrasound procedure being performed. Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination.
Able to perform examinations in a timely manner.
Follows and documents scan protocol and/or Radiologist prescription of parameters without error.
Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded.
Prepares informed consent for, and assists Radiologist with interventional procedures; needle localizations, aspirations, and biopsies as requested.
Practices aseptic techniques as necessary.
Assists the Radiologist in reviewing the completed study as is applicable.
Completes all documentation, paperwork, imaging and archiving necessary to maintain patient file without omissions. Reports to physician and documents, without failure, any negative effects the patient may have experienced.
Completes Modality Worksheet with accurate information for the Radiologist.
Maintains high standards regarding the accurate recording of patient information.
Present high quality ultrasound images and pertinent patient history to radiologist for interpretation.
Utilizes accurate written and oral communications with patients, physicians, co-workers and supervisors.
Utilizes exemplary customer service skills with patient and family members.
Performs necessary computer functions associated with patient exam. Includes PACS.
Keeps work area and patient exam areas neat and stocked with appropriate supplies.
Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
Maintains a professional demeanor with confidentiality.
Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences.
Cooperates and maintains good rapport with co-workers to ensure proper patient care and efficient workflow.
Able to travel to other sites.
Check work e-mail daily.
Maintain confidentiality of all center and patient information at all times, as required by facility policy and HIPAA guidelines.
Follow the center exposure controls plan for blood borne and airborne pathogens.

Graduate from an Accredited Diagnostic Ultrasound program required.
ARDMS registry eligible or Abdomen & OB/GYN preferred
Breast, Vascular, MSK, NT and pediatrics registries a plus/preferred.
Current BLS certification required.

Performs a variety of sonographic examinations dealing with OB/GYN, abdominal and small parts. Expectations also include assisting the radiologist during invasive procedures. Performs abdominal Doppler studies of the liver and liver transplants, as well as performing Nuchal Translucency studies and neonatal cranial exams. One additional certification i.e. Breast, Vascular, Neurosonography, MSK, Pediatrics, Fetal Echo, Nuchaltranslucency or the Neonatal specialty is required for Senior Sonographer status. Makes a clinical judgment of the patient's condition, based on information obtained from the referring physician, medical records, patient interview and personal assessments.

Required Qualifications:
+ Coursework/Training and Successful completion of Ultrasound training program --- Education sufficient to meet eligibility requirements to take American Registry of Diagnostic Ultrasonographers (ARDMS) registry examination

Adjusts sonography scan parameters correctly and as needed
Follows physicians' orders precisely, conforms to safety regulations, to and accurately maintains patient records within Radiology Information System (RIS)
Maintains an orderly and clean work area, including sanitizing equipment, to promote good safety habits for patients and team members
Maintains the American College of Radiology (ACR) toolkit and accreditation requirements
