Primary Duties:
Assists physician in such procedures as needle biopsies, amniocentesis, and renal biopsies. Scans patient, marks patient's body, determines angle for puncture, assists as necessary, and maintains sterile technique.
Generates computer images or film through automatic processing and evaluates quality.
Communicates and documents patient's clinical information clearly and accurately in verbal and computerized report format. Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients.
Secures and returns supplies such as film, linens, medicine, and patient folders.
Selects and operates equipment as directed. Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
2 years diagnostic or ultrasound experience or graduation from an accredited Ultrasound program (registry eligible) with certification in Diagnostic Sonography by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within 1 Year.
Basic Life Support (BLS).
Certification in Diagnostic Sonography by ARDMS within 1 Year preferred.

Communicates effectively with the patient to obtain clinical maternal-fetal history/informed consent from the patient or patient's chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination, as evidenced by the exam results. Demonstrates knowledge of proper sterile techniques and isolation precautions as they pertain to the various specialty procedures.

Qualifications
English language proficiency
Registered or registry eligible in Sonography by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), shall have a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in the specialized modality in a Level 1 hospital setting, and shall be able to work with minimal or no supervision
Note - Student internship and training time spent in a radiology setting does not count toward the two (2) years of experience
Experience with Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS), experience with Agfa PACS is preferred but not required
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required

+ Performs imaging and non-imaging cardiovascular evaluations, including exercise tolerance tests, Holter monitoring, event recorders, electrocardiograms, stress tests, and transesophageal echocardiography
+ Adjusts equipment and explains procedures to relax patient to eliminate test artifacts
+ Monitors the patient for potentially dangerous physical and emotional changes
+ Recognizes abnormal rhythms and immediately notifies physician. Evaluates test results for clarity and accuracy; reviews tests with peers
+ Informs physicians of preliminary findings as requested, and according to department procedures
+ Distributes completed test results to physicians and service providers
+ Maintains patient charts, enters diagnosis and billing codes, logs data into patient information systems, and updates file systems for tests performed
+ Cleans and sterilizes equipment and work space
+ Recognizes equipment malfunctions and adjusts equipment or refers for repair
+ Instructs patients in pretest preparation, answers questions and explains procedures

Minimum Requirements:
+ Associate's degree or experience in a related field preferred and/or per state requirements

Performing general ultrasound exams, including breast, small parts, vascular, and OBGYN exams in a timely and complete manner
Correlation of clinical history to the test that is being performed
Prepare the exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct examinations.
Assist radiologists as needed with ultrasound-guided biopsies and vascular ultrasound procedures.
Recognize and record the appropriate anatomy and pathology using sonographic equipment.
Properly care for sonography equipment and report equipment failure.
Write reports based upon the scan results and completion.
Alert appropriate medical staff of any abnormalities that need immediate attention.
Use the ability to solve problems and make decisions.
Work independently or with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
