Responsibilities and Requirements
Primary Function
Performs a wide variety of technical procedures, requiring independent judgment and ingenuity
Requires initiative to apply appropriate skills to facilitate a diagnosis
May be assigned independent responsibilities by Lead Technologist, Administrative Director, or Operations Manager. Proper care of the clients in accordance with the departmental and hospital policies and procedures is required
May be responsible for assigned areas to assume responsibilities of supervision or instruction to department personnel as determined by Operations Manager or Lead Technologist
Practices infection control and body substance isolation in clinical practice in compliance with departmental and hospital policies and OSHA standards
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
Demonstrates proper operation of PACS, HIS and RIS computer systems
Demonstrates ability to operate and trouble shoot CR, DR and PACs applications
Attends annual mandatory education to include blood borne pathogens, infection control, and body substance isolation. Maintains department competencies as required
Position Qualifications
Experience
Minimum of 3 years experience as Ultrasonographer preferred
Must obtain registry from ARDMS or ARRT within 2 years of employment
Education and Training
Must have completed approved Diagnostic Sonography Technology Program.
Additional registration and state license as a diagnostic technologist preferred
License, Certification & Registration
ARRT(S)/ARDMS - Registered Sonographer through ARRT or ARDMS within 2 years of employment
CPR - CPR is required
If you are currently employed and possess a Massachusetts Diagnostic Radiography License and Registration by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists, you must be maintain these credentials throughout your employment
Other Requirements
Must be proficient in Abdominal, Pelvic, and Obstetrical , dvt studies of arms and legs and obtaining images using portable equipment
Must be familiar with sterile technique and set up of sterile trays
Ability to function independently and proficiently
Must be able to move and lift patients, equipment, and supplies on a regular basis
Ability to function in a high stress, work intensive environment

Job Summary
Per Diem
This position reports to the Ultrasound Supervisor and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Must be able to effectively interact appropriately to an individual's intellectual level and physical ability including infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Provide high quality imaging, project excellence in customer service behavior and quality of service and provide exemplary patient care.
Scan patients in areas of abdomen, pelvis, head, high resolution (small parts) and vascular areas.
Recognize desired information pattern and record photographically in order to ensure proper diagnosis of normal and abnormal structures.
Perform Doppler studies, trans-vaginal studies and obstetric studies; and assist with cyst puncture or biopsy procedures.

Participate in reviewing interpretation or various daily scans with Radiologist.
Review digital images as required, ensuring a high-quality image.
Ensure proficiency in use of the Radiology Information System and PACS.
Train others in the use of the Radiology Information System and PACS.
Assist in scheduling add on or emergent patients.
Interview patients in order to obtain information pertinent to the examination being performed.
Coordinate, collaborate, & communicate with other imaging modalities on providing efficient care of patients undergoing multiple modality exams.
Create and sustain a team environment communicate effectively and appropriately and work collaboratively.
Assist radiologist during interventional imaging procedures to ensure compliance of JCAHO and departmental policies and procedures and safety standards.
Report issues of non-compliance to these standards to the Team Leader immediately.
Assist in performance of quality control studies and gathering of quality improvement data as required.
Keep current with new positions, procedures, policies, and techniques as established by the licensing board and Cooley Dickinson Health Care.
Work flexible hours as department needs are assessed and be available for call as needed and required.
Assist with student training as necessary and provide input into student evaluations.
Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control and environmental standards.

The department offers services 24 hours a day, seven days a week to inpatients, outpatients and emergency room patients of all ages.
