Schedule 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Required Qualifications Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: N/A Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: RVT certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The sonographer must demonstrate an aptitude for human anatomy and physiology, particularly as these areas relate to the peripheral, visceral, and cardiovascular systems. They should use sound judgement in administrating tests and documenting observations. The sonographer must be able to work independently. The ability to exercise good judgement and problem-solving skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. RESPONSIBILITIES Performs high-risk obstetric ultrasounds working with Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists including: first trimester ultrasounds, detailed first-trimester fetal anatomy assessment, comprehensive fetal anatomy assessments in the second and third trimesters, transvaginal ultrasounds to assess maternal and fetal anatomy, maternal and fetal doppler studies (including umbilical dopplers and middle cerebral artery dopplers), antenatal fetal surveillance, 3D and 4D imaging Ultrasounds on patients with high BMI in pregnancy, multifetal gestations, nuchal translucency and nasal bone assessment, and cervical length assessments are within the scope of this sonographer Uses accurate clinical judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings Uses cognitive sonographic skills to accurately identify, record, and adapt imaging studies and antenatal surveillance as appropriate based on anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information and images Analyses obtained images and synthesizes sonographic information and clinical history and communicates findings to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician and other members of the care team including Registered Nurses and Genetic Counselors Assists Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician in the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic fetal procedures including amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, fetal fluid drainage, fetal injections, fetal blood sampling and transfusion Assumes responsibility for the safety as well as the mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care Educates, assists, and communicates effectively with patients and their families regarding procedures and/or treatments to be performed in difficult and anxious settings and provides emotionally supportive and culturally appropriate care Assists with the daily operations of the ultrasound department including maintenance and cleaning/sterilization of ultrasound equipment Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department with participation in monitoring and maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of services Establishes and maintains ethical and professional working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospital, referral, or commercial agencies This includes maintaining the confidentiality of all work information Coordinate with other staff both in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine unit and referring providers to ensure appropriate and patient-centered care is provided Provides ultrasound skill training for ultrasound technologist students, Medical Students, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Radiology Residents, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellows Coordinates work schedule with departmental Supervisor and/or scheduling desk to ensure workload coverage Maintains practice standards as outlined in the American Society of Radiologic Technicians (ASRT): The Practice Standards for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy - Sonography Practice Standards Maintains practice standards as outlined in The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) accreditation QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree in ultrasound technology and a graduate of an accredited School of Ultrasound Technology by CAAHEP Certification or Certification-Eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO: Perform ultrasound studies and facilitate ultrasound training at your home hospital and regional hospitals Maintain good relationships with and accept feedback from teleconsultation radiologists reading your studies (e.g., Antech, SonoPath, IDEXX, VetsChoice, etc.) Ensure all training content and activities are in alignment with VEG culture, mission, and vision, and represent accurate, up-to-date sonographic techniques Track doctor and nursing team skills with a VEG Ultrasound Certificate checklist Engage in self-reflection and program evaluation practices to modify and enhance VEG's ultrasound training programs Regularly meet with the medical directors, VNDCs, and director of radiology education to discuss program development, training objectives, and additional needs Regularly meet with hospital manager and medical director to discuss implementation of new training protocols, training schedules, hospital training needs, and interpersonal concerns Coordinate weekly schedule with hospital manager and medical director to work on-the-floor shifts and dedicate time to training responsibilities May assist in developing ultrasound curriculum material, as needed, such as PowerPoints, videos, simulations, and assessments to be implemented across the doctor and nursing team training programs May have the opportunity to provide educational demonstrations for doctors and nurses at other VEGs including ultrasound topics such as abdominal, thoracic, cardiac, cervical, and musculoskeletal studies OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE: Full-time employment and benefits with VEG Patience to train and develop doctors, nurses, and fellow sonographers Previous experience in a training role 3+ years veterinary ultrasound experience Credentials as a veterinary technician (LVT/CVT/RVT/LVMT), diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS), AND/OR equivalent experience (e.g., sonographer course certificates) Comfort mentoring others and giving/receiving feedback from colleagues A positive and friendly personality The ability to adapt to changing environments Embraced The VEG Way and be excited to share your perspective and experience The ability to recognize and celebrate other VEGgies' success when they see it Eagerness to continue to grow as a sonographer through developing personal skills and knowledge Desire to travel to regional hospitals and off-site training facilities (e.g., Fort Collins, CO, Las Vegas, NV, White Plains, NY etc.) WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE US Because emergency is all we do, so we do it best! This is a .6 FTE (48 hours per 2 weeks) position that will work every Thursday and Friday on the overnight shift from 6:30PM - 6:30AM.
