Job Description
The ultrasound technician, also known as a diagnostic medical sonographer, is responsible for performing imaging examinations using ultrasound equipment to provide valuable information for diagnosis and treatment. This role involves preparing patients, operating ultrasound machinery, and analyzing images to assist physicians in assessing medical conditions.
• Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
• Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
• Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
• Analyses; sonograms, synthesize sonographic information, medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
• Coordinates work schedule with Imaging Supervisor and/or scheduling desk to assure workload coverage.
• Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
• Assists with the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory.
• Maintains a daily log of patients seen/completes exam billing forms.
• Participates in the maintenance of laboratory accreditation.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements/Certifications:
• Minimum 2 years recent ultrasound imaging practical experience in a hospital or clinic environment.
• Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment.
• Ability to evaluate sonograms to acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
• Ability to integrate diagnostic sonograms, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt sonographic examination as necessary.
• Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
Experience Desired:
• Experience with digital acquisition and transmission of images preferred.
• Experience in or desire to learn general x-ray technician duties preferable.
• Demonstrated knowledge of imaging practices.

Education Required:
• Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology.
• Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) preferred.
• Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate.
• Current BLS certification.
• Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA-approved school and ability to meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Must meet pre-deployment physical requirements.
• Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
• May require bending, stooping and lifting to 25 lbs.
Other Special Qualifications:
• US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
• Valid US Passport with at least 18 months before expiration date. Must maintain a current passport during your stay in Iraq.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, specifically a MRPT. Applicants with current clearances are preferred.
• Must be able to relocate to Iraq for the duration of the project.

Assists radiologists during ultrasound biopsy procedures using appropriate sterile technique and universal precautions

Maintains the ultrasound equipment for cleanliness and ensures proper equipment maintenance and equipment safety
Maintains a good working relationship with Radiologists and other Center staff members

Here is what you will need:
Education: Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. For exceptions and training outside the US, educational requirements will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and require HR approval.
Certificates: Active certification with ARDMS (SPI only is not eligible for hire) or ARRT(S). ARRT-BS is also acceptable if performing breast sonography only. Current compliance with CME requirements. Exceptions require HR approval.
Language Skills: Ability to effectively communicate to patients the procedures and educate women about the role of regular mammography in preventative breast health. Ability to read and write and comprehend medical terminology. Ability to effectively communicate information on a one-on-one and small group basis to doctors, patients, and other employees.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and sometimes involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of database software and RIS/PACS software.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements/Certifications:
• Minimum 2 years recent ultrasound imaging practical experience in a hospital or clinic environment.
• Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment.
• Ability to evaluate sonograms to acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
• Ability to integrate diagnostic sonograms, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt sonographic examination as necessary.
• Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
Experience Desired:
• Experience with digital acquisition and transmission of images preferred.
• Experience in or desire to learn general x-ray technician duties preferable.

Education Required:
• Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology.

• Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate.
• Current BLS certification.
• Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA-approved school and ability to meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Must meet pre-deployment physical requirements.
• Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Performs high quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging exams in accordance with established department guidelines and protocols. Be able to independently scan routine and comprehensive ultrasound under the supervision of the MFM Physicians. The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease process, and new procedures as they evolve.
• Verifies patient identification and reviews that the requested procedure correlates with the patient's clinical history.
• Reviews clinical information, including relevant personal and family history, exposures and other risk factors. This also includes review of pertinent prior imaging study reports or the images themselves as available.
• Communicates easily and effectively with patients in a pleasant and reassuring manner. Explains the procedure to the patient and responds to patient questions and concerns.
• Performs appropriate procedures and records anatomic, pathologic and or physiologic data for interpretation by the Maternal Fetal Medicine and Radiology faculty.
• Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
• Extends the scope of the exam by providing additional ultrasound images based on the pathology or aberrant findings.
• Reviews images for accurate annotation, technique, and completeness. Demonstrates the ability to properly adjust the technical factors aimed at improving the image quality.
• Maintains knowledge of anatomy, pathology, hemodynamics, and ultrasound physics to identify and characterize normal and aberrant anatomy, masses, fluid collections, stenosis and sonographic artifacts.
• Record and process sonographic images and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician. Ensures that the documentation is accurate, concise and complete.
• Performs and completes the ultrasound examination within the designated time frame.
• Prepares examination report and effectively communicates ultrasound technical findings to the interpreting physician.
• Independently perform ultrasound guidance services required during procedures performed in the unit consists of genetic amniocentesis, transvaginal and transcervical chorionic villus biopsy, multifetal reduction and amnio reduction.
• Demonstrate the ability to competently perform first trimester and second trimester screening, transvaginal assessment of cervical length, routine and comprehensive ultrasound examinations, biophysical profiles, growth assessment, and Doppler assessment of the middle cerebral artery peak velocity, umbilical artery, umbilical vein, and ductus venosus in cases of twin-twin transfusion and fetal growth restriction.
• Performs CVS procedures.
• Identifies different abnormalities and takes additional images based on abnormalities. Makes independent judgement on what images are needed depending on patient history.
• Introduced to 3D imaging.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the use of ultrasound equipment, transducers, computer systems, and electronic medical records.
• Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort and well being of patients while they are in the sonographer care.
