Maintains confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Maintains competency by participating in continuing education programs and meets state specific requirements, if applicable. Complies with accepted ethical and professional standards of conduct. Reviews patient chart for relevant information and history. Determines test procedures according to purpose of examination and physician orders. Explains procedure to patient and assists patient in proper positioning for the test. Selects transducer, and makes equipment adjustments according to nature of test, depth of field, and other specifications of test. Enters required test data and patient information into computer to become part of test record. Conducts actual test procedure; moves transducer by hand over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasound image produced. Records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film. Produces a permanent record of test results. Recognizes test results which may constitute critical clinical situations and notifies physician immediately as per facility protocol. Recognizes and responds to other patient emergencies according to facility protocol. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
