**JOB SUMMARY**
The UltrasoundTechnologist, under general supervision of a Radiologist or physician, performs ultrasound procedures, performs ultrasound procedures in ambulatory and/or hospital environment as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE**

Performs high quality ultrasound procedures, according to exam protocol, in a timely manner. Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
Utilizes AIDET when communicating with patients to: identify patient service requirements, ensure correct exam is performed on the correct patient, and establish rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their family regarding the test to be performed and assesses patient's ability to tolerate exam.
Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
Protects patients and team members by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control, drug and radiation policies, protocols and techniques. Uses proper sterile techniques when setting up and performing invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.
Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities of equipment. Reports issues to management or appropriate department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory. Ensures individuals are safe to enter the department by screening them according to approved policies and procedures.
Obtains, verifies, and maintains all relevant documentation such as requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status and shielding precautions taken, consent forms, policies and procedures, etc.
Imaging team members are expected to adhere to policies, procedures and workflows. These system workflows include, but are not limited to PACS, EMR, image exchange systems, modality worklist integrity, record management, and BioMed services.
Maintains medical imaging records in appropriate system and according to department policies and standards for interpretation in a timely manner.

Job Summary

Essential Functions of the Role

Identifies and defines abnormalities specific to the procedure. Extends the examination scope appropriately, deviating from standard techniques when necessary. Correlates other diagnostic test results with anatomy and function. Utilizes appropriate protection measures during procedures.
May assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing ultrasound studies. This aids in complex procedures to decrease risk factors.
Prepares patients for procedures and obtains clinical history, including physical findings and lab data. Fits imaging techniques for comprehensive exams to avoid errors. Explains the purpose of the ultrasound examination to the patient and answers questions.
Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the ultrasound Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.
Acts as a resource to other staff, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures and studies to optimize patient care.
Works closely with the ultrasound team to ensure quality processes and adherence to protocols. Assists with unit or organization accreditation activities as delegated.
Implements protocols as new technology evolves, and ensures implementation and adherence to system standards.
Assures operation of equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer's recommendations and troubleshooting equipment as required.
Key Success Factors
Must be familiar with approved clinical protocols for each type of ultrasound examination to be performed.
Must meet all qualifications for any two of these modalities: Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, or small parts. Work a minimum of 25% of the time in the second modality. Pediatric and adult scopes are studied as separate specialties by certification.
Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic methods, instrumentation and techniques.
Knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology for each different specialty.
Knowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures.
Knowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.

As a Vascular Technologist, you are responsible for performing ultrasonic imaging and related procedures in all areas of ultrasound. * You will perform upper/lower extremity Venous Duplex protocol for DVT or Venous Insufficiency, Carotid Duplex exam protocol, protocol for upper/lower extremity arterial flow exam
* You will produce scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric
* You will relay to Radiologist any relevant patient information

Job Requirements
Experience
* One year experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer
* One year experience as a Radiologic Technologist - preferred
* A single two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related OR Graduate of a program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), United States Department of Education (USDOE) or Canadian Medical Association (CMA), that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography/diagnostic cardiac sonography/vascular technology
* Associates degree or higher in related technological field - preferred
Licenses and Certifications
* Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credentials with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
* BLS Certification as per St. David's Healthcare policy

You will perform ultrasound exams including Abdominal, OB, GYN, Small Parts, Prostates, and Vascular Scans. Demonstrates anatomy for interpretation and /or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner.
+ You will identify upper/lower extremity venous anatomy, extra cranial and intracranial anatomy, upper/lower extremity arterial anatomy and collateral venous pathways in presence of disease
+ You will perform upper/lower extremity Venous Duplex protocol for DVT or Venous Insufficiency, Carotid Duplex exam protocol, protocol for upper/lower extremity arterial flow exam
+ You will produce scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric
+ You will relay to Radiologist any relevant patient information
+ You will complete required documentation on forms, logs and in computer
+ You will label images and identify according to protocol.
+ You will obtain all pertinent patient history, and relay it to the Radiologist to assist in diagnosis or treatment
+ You will review written orders, assesses patient identification and ensures indicators are appropriate prior to procedure

**Job Summary**
The Multi-modality Sonographer performs basic to advanced ultrasound services. These may include abdominal, Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small parts. This position examines the patient's clinical history to identify the examination's purpose. It frames the clinical questions the examination should answer and expands the examination as needed.
**Essential Functions of the Role**
+ Perform multiple modality ultrasound procedures using various equipment and techniques. Make necessary measurements for accurate, high-quality results.
+ Identifies and defines abnormalities specific to the procedure. Extends the examination scope appropriately, deviating from standard techniques when necessary. Correlates other diagnostic test results with anatomy and function. Utilizes appropriate protection measures during procedures.
+ May assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing ultrasound studies. This aids in complex procedures to decrease risk factors.
+ Prepares patients for procedures and obtains clinical history, including physical findings and lab data. Fits imaging techniques for comprehensive exams to avoid errors. Explains the purpose of the ultrasound examination to the patient and answers questions.
+ Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the ultrasound Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.
+ Acts as a resource to other staff, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures and studies to optimize patient care.
+ Works closely with the ultrasound team to ensure quality processes and adherence to protocols. Assists with unit or organization accreditation activities as delegated.

Call: On call, which includes weekends and holidays. Weekend starts at 5:30pm on Friday and ends at 7:00am on Monday
Must be present/on-site within 1 hour of call.
Travel: 1-2 times a month, rotational - occasionally we travel with a portable ultrasound machine to a continuing care facility across town to perform echoes.
Registry: Multi-credentialed sonographers must have 2 credentials: RCS- Registered Cardiac Sonographer through (CCI), or RDCS Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer through (ARDMS) -
AND 2. RVT or RVS .
Education: Graduate of an accredited Technical or Associates degree program in Radiology and (2) years' professional experience with intermediate level echocardiography or vascular skills.
Desired skills: MUST BE proficient in transthoracic echocardiography. Teach and share knowledge base with both fellows team members as well as participate in training Cardiology Fellows, and students during clinical rotations, familiarity with Philips iE33/EPIQ systems

Job Summary
The Multi-modality Sonographer performs basic to advanced ultrasound services. These may include abdominal, Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small parts. This position examines the patient's clinical history to identify the examination's purpose. It frames the clinical questions the examination should answer and expands the examination as needed.
Essential Functions of the Role
* Perform multiple modality ultrasound procedures using various equipment and techniques. Make necessary measurements for accurate, high-quality results.
* Identifies and defines abnormalities specific to the procedure. Extends the examination scope appropriately, deviating from standard techniques when necessary. Correlates other diagnostic test results with anatomy and function. Utilizes appropriate protection measures during procedures.
* May assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing ultrasound studies. This aids in complex procedures to decrease risk factors.
* Prepares patients for procedures and obtains clinical history, including physical findings and lab data. Fits imaging techniques for comprehensive exams to avoid errors. Explains the purpose of the ultrasound examination to the patient and answers questions.
* Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the ultrasound Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.
* Acts as a resource to other staff, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures and studies to optimize patient care.
* Works closely with the ultrasound team to ensure quality processes and adherence to protocols. Assists with unit or organization accreditation activities as delegated.
* Implements protocols as new technology evolves, and ensures implementation and adherence to system standards.
* Assures operation of equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer's recommendations and troubleshooting equipment as required.
Key Success Factors
* Must be familiar with approved clinical protocols for each type of ultrasound examination to be performed.
* Must meet all qualifications for any two of these modalities: Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, or small parts. Work a minimum of 25% of the time in the second modality. Pediatric and adult scopes are studied as separate specialties by certification.
* Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic methods, instrumentation and techniques.
* Knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology for each different specialty.
* Knowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures.
* Knowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.
* Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians and nurses.
* Skilled in the utilization of computers and medical equipment.
