The Pediatric & Congenital Echocardiography Sonographer performs comprehensive diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations on neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults with congenital heart disease. This role requires advanced knowledge of congenital cardiac anatomy, strong technical expertise, and the ability to provide compassionate, developmentally appropriate care in a tertiary or quaternary pediatric hospital environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive pediatric and congenital transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE), including complex congenital heart disease assessments
Perform echocardiographic studies on neonates, infants (including NICU), children, adolescents, and adults with repaired or unrepaired congenital heart disease
Assist with and perform stress echocardiography, contrast studies, and agitated saline studies as ordered
Acquire and optimize high-quality images, Doppler measurements, and hemodynamic assessments tailored to congenital anatomy
Recognize, document, and communicate significant congenital and acquired cardiac findings to pediatric cardiologists promptly
Provide age-appropriate patient and family education and emotional support during procedures
Collaborate with pediatric cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, nurses, and multidisciplinary congenital care teams
Support perioperative, ICU, catheterization lab, and emergency department imaging needs
Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) and image archiving systems
Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of echocardiography equipment
Adhere to hospital policies, patient safety standards, infection control protocols, and HIPAA regulations
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research activities, and continuing education
Qualifications
Required:
Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology program
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association)

Key Responsibilities
Supervision of Ultrasound staff
Coordinates the work assigned to each area and monitors the work of the staff: Develops and assigns daily schedule of assigned personnel and ensures accurate record keeping.
Observes and assists technical and ancillary staff in the performance of job duties, including providing suggestions for improved work efficiency and quality.
Performs preparation of control and quality control and assessment tasks (QA/QC).
Ensures the department delivers quality services, in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards, to support operational excellence.
Serves as the Clinical Coordinator for Ultrasound students.
Evaluation and Implementation of Appropriate Care
After reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient's abilities and condition, selects the most appropriate patient care plan.
Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
Evaluates lab values prior to performing any interventional procedure.
Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts, from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination.
Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.
Monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documents exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reports concerns or issues immediately to supervisor.
Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database, to include exam start and complete times.
Performs such exams as abdominal, renal, aorta, thyroid, pelvic, obstetrical, bio-physical profiles, vascular studies, testicular and breasts, color flow studies, Doppler studies, renal biopsies, and fluid collections of localized areas. Takes representative anatomical pictures, recognizes normal versus abnormal anatomy, and exhibits knowledge of various pathological processes.
Has thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to sufficiently pinpoint area of imaging.
Quality of Care
The technologist provides evidence-based care to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
The technologist practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
The technologist complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions.
Comply with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures.
Patient Satisfaction
Regularly applies AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) as well as other evidence-based behaviors when taking care of patients. Shows empathy care to patients and family members present.
Actively helps the department meet the identified Patient Satisfaction goal.
Demonstrates regular attendance and participation at scheduled department and team meetings. Absences must be communicated as soon as practically possible.
Ensures all licensure, competencies, training, and education are completed in a timely manner.
Participates in and encourage continuous process improvement.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of a registry eligible ultrasound education program
Certification
Certification in one of the following: ARDMS-RVT, CCI-RVS, or ARRT(VS)
BLS through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in ultrasound imaging
Preferences
Education: Graduate of an ARDMS approved (registry eligible) UltrasoundTechnologist program, an approved ARRT program RT (S) or RT (VS), or an approved registry eligible CCI (RVS) program
Certification: RDMS certification in one or more of the following specialties: Abdomen, OB/GYN, and/or Breast

The Sonographer II is responsible for the independent operation of diagnostic medical equipment to assess and diagnose various OBGYN/MFM conditions and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. Will work in a progressive, busy office and will scan outpatients and inpatients providing comprehensive collaboration with Maternal Fetal Medicine providers, Registered Nurses and OB/GYN Providers. Provides clinical services according to specialized maternal fetal ultrasound practice standards to detect fetal anomalies and acts as a resource to students, nurses, fellows and other technologists, to ensure the safety of patients. The sonographer is responsible for the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). Must be able to work independently and have a thorough knowledge of high-risk situations. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Verify patient identification, review intake, and patient history for information pertinent to scheduled exam. Gathers relevant information from the patient by asking questions and reviewing their medical records regarding the patient's health status and medical history.

Performs equipment quality assessment procedures, as required, to determine that equipment operates at an acceptable performance level.
Seeks to ensure that the work site, exam rooms, and work areas are in a neat and safe condition, to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
Participates in continuing education activities through professional societies and organizations to enhance knowledge, skills, and performance.
Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent department operations.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Sonographer and/or Ultrasound Tech required, preferably in MFM
Degree or Certification from an accredited Sonography program required
ARDMS Certification in Obstetrics (OB) required
Fetal Nuchal Translucency and Nasal Bone Certification (FMF NT) required
Cervical Assessment Certification (CLEAR or from FMF) required
Fetal Echocardiography (FE) Certification required

Ultrasound technologist job in Loleta, CA
UltrasoundTechnologist at Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna, CA. This position is full time and will work 10-hour, Day shifts Under the direction of the Department Director, supervision of the Radiology Supervisor, and in collaboration with radiologists, the UltrasoundTechnologist I performs clinical diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures and related activities according to department standards for all patients served: infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Serves as a customer service representative to patients, their families, the public, and the medical staff. Participates in quality control and organizational improvement activities. Serves as a clinical/technical resource for less experienced sonographers. Participates in call schedule to meet staffing needs of the department.

Required Qualifications:
Coursework/Training Graduate of a program in diagnostic ultrasound approved by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Or equivalent educ/experience. Completed equivalent training through self-study, on-the-job training, etc.
Upon hire: National Certification from American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a hospital-based ultrasoundtechnologist.
