Responsibilities The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer provides diagnostic ultrasound tests for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine setting. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer works independently and with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care to pregnant women. Explains exam to patient and family prior to the commencement of the test to assure cooperation and optimum test results. Acquires anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data. Records/processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure. Creates a preliminary report for physician interpretation and review/signature. Assists physician with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action. Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies. Follows the accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining two‐dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m‐mode where applicable. Rotates as needed to cover Sonographer absences. Performs related and other assigned duties as directed. Qualifications Education: Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent. Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) in OB/GYN. Must provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements. CPR certification required. Experience Minimum six months experience as an ultrasound technician working in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting preferred. This role involves preparing patients, operating ultrasound machinery, and analyzing images to assist physicians in assessing medical conditions. • Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations. • Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. • Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. • Analyses; sonograms, synthesize sonographic information, medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. • Coordinates work schedule with Imaging Supervisor and/or scheduling desk to assure workload coverage. • Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care. • Assists with the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory. • Maintains a daily log of patients seen/completes exam billing forms. • Participates in the maintenance of laboratory accreditation. • Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals, referral or commercial agencies. • Performs all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician. • Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring physicians when required, according to established procedures. • Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided. • Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems. • Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required. • Assumes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the sonographic area/department. • Reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member. • Provides in-service education team on requirements of sonographic procedures as requested by other members of the health care team. • Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies. Qualifications Basic Requirements/Certifications: • Minimum 2 years recent ultrasound imaging practical experience in a hospital or clinic environment. • Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment. • Ability to evaluate sonograms to acquire appropriate diagnostic information. • Ability to integrate diagnostic sonograms, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt sonographic examination as necessary. • Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed. Experience Desired: • Experience with digital acquisition and transmission of images preferred. • Experience in or desire to learn general x-ray technician duties preferable. • Demonstrated knowledge of imaging practices. • Ability to evaluate, synthesize and communicate diagnostic information to the attending physician. • Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and patient's needs. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and health care team. • Ability to follow established departmental procedures. • Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations. Education Required: • Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology. • Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) preferred. • Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate. • Current BLS certification. • Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA-approved school and ability to meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) preferred. Physical Requirements: • Must meet pre-deployment physical requirements. • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. • May require bending, stooping and lifting to 25 lbs. Other Special Qualifications: • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required. • Valid US Passport with at least 18 months before expiration date. Must maintain a current passport during your stay in Iraq. • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, specifically a MRPT. Applicants with current clearances are preferred. • Must be able to relocate to Iraq for the duration of the project. • Must be able to read, write and speak English to effectively communicate.
