The Ultrasound Technologist obtains multiplanar images of patients' internal organs using diagnostic ultrasound equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of a medical condition. The Ultrasound Technologist must be able to accurately interpret the physician order, and effectively interact with patients, hospital employees, managers, and other health team members while maintaining established professional standards. The Ultrasound Technologist will also participate in performance improvement activities and perform other imaging tasks or duties as assigned. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures utilizing standard and doppler imaging techniques obtaining optimal exam consistency. Provides needed assistance to radiologists and other physicians during ultrasound procedures. Patient safety and dignity are always maintained. Continuous monitoring of requests for correct orders. Images are properly labeled, documented in the RIS, and submitted to PACS for dictation promptly. Proper preparation is done on all patients. This will include education, history, and informed consent if indicated. Information is properly documented. All other duties as assigned. Maintains adequate stocks of supplies in the work area. The area is cleaned, and stock replaced daily. Knowledge and understanding of ultrasound physics and imaging techniques. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Graduation from AMA approved school of Ultrasound imaging. Certification by Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) must be achieved within 3 months of hire. Vascular Technology (VT) is required within 18 months of hire. Remove any gel from the patient's skin and offer tissues or towels for cleaning. Provide patients with aftercare instructions, especially if additional follow-up appointments or tests are required. The Ultrasound Technologist will support cardiovascular research studies in the Epidemiology Department by performing high-quality vascular ultrasound assessments in accordance with IRB-approved study protocols. This part-time role is integral to data collection efforts related to assessing endothelial function and vascular health in patients or study participants. The specialist will work closely with research investigators, clinicians, and study staff to ensure the accurate and consistent acquisition of Flow-Mediated Dilation (FMD) brachial artery ultrasounds. Work is performed in a clinical research setting with exposure to standard imaging equipment. This position may require flexible scheduling including occasional weekends or evenings based on participant availability. The position requires standing for extended periods, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to lift or position patients.
