Responsibilities
1. Performs quality and efficient ultrasound exams in order to assist with a patient's diagnostic work-up
1.1 Follows routine protocols and/or physicians specific prescriptions. Repeat of examinations due to non-compliance or poor quality is minimal as observed by manager / supervisor or physician review.
2. Provides accurate and compassionate patient care in order to ensure service excellence, patient cooperation, safety, and satisfaction.
2.1 Identifies patients and exams accurately 100% of the time according to departmental policy as observed by supervisor or other hospital staff.
3. Performs various record-keeping tasks in order to ensure department goals are met, medical record documentation accuracy, and daily operations run smoothly and efficiently.
3.1 Demonstrates a mastery of end user computer skills of the RIS (Imagecast, VIP, Synapse, Syngo Dynamics, Event Reporting) by accurately and independently performing related tasks such as exam scheduling, completion, document scanning etc.
4. Participates in various learning opportunities in order to further personal knowledge/skills and assists with teaching or training others.
4.1 Proactively seeks opportunities to further one's career, knowledge, and expertise through job related seminars, IFE courses, advanced degrees/certifications, or membership in professional societies, etc.

EXPERIENCE

LICENSURE
Active, current ARDMS certification. Within six (6) months of hire - Abdomen certification. CPR certification is preferred. (OB) also desirable. CPR certification also preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Proficient in routine ultrasound imaging techniques, above average knowledge of computer / Pacs applications, good organizational and communication/customer service skills.

Job Summary:
Schedules patients and operates equipment to perform diagnostic medical sonograms in accordance with protocols in order to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment. Follows established policies and procedures set by the department, hospital, state, ACR, TJC, and OSHA.
Key Accountabilities:
Performs ultrasound diagnostic procedures by selecting appropriate transducers and correct scanning sequences to produce an accurate image to assist the radiologist in the diagnosis.

Maintains the ultrasound equipment in good operating order. Clean and disinfect equipment and area after each use. Maintain work area in an orderly manner. Report any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to supervisor.
Demonstrates yearly competencies, including knowledge and behaviors, to conduct examinations and meet the needs of patients with regard to the patient's age, condition or other special requirements.
Routinely prepare examination for interpretation by the radiologist to include correct identification and processing. Set up images in PACs system. Accurately inputs data in the RIS by tracking actual procedure in order to capture all charges and other relevant information for patient billing and to determine department resource allocation, billing and inventory.
Possess computer skills appropriate to meet departmental needs in preparation of reports and correspondence.
Works effectively as a team member within the department and with other units to provide quality service through communication, cooperation and collaboration. Provides clinical supervision and instruction to students by maintaining and understanding of policies, procedures, and the clinical competency process (in order to evaluate student growth and competence in performing radiographic procedures).

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment in various modes and techniques to locate, evaluate and record pertinent anatomical, pathological and functional data. Operates ultrasound equipment to make quality images; performs studies in required modalities. Provides training, guidance to Ultrasound Technology students.
Job Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge of the hospital and radiology information systems as they relate to radiology. Selects appropriate patient information from HIS/RIS system in accordance with HIPPA regulations. Accesses patient information; schedules exams, appointment times, type of exam, patient reports, etc. Follows departmental HIS/RIS system procedures and protocol to ensure orders are verified and processed to correctly. Effectively assesses patients information and status, and follows appropriate procedure(s) accordingly. Uses standard procedures to identify the correct patient. Reviews patients requisition and understands the type of exam required by each requisition and confers with medical staff regarding clarification when necessary.
Follows accepted radiologic procedures and uses medical information to determine type of protocol required for radiographic examination. Consults policy and procedure manuals and/or other reference materials as necessary to ensure actions conform to established protocols. Follows special instructions indicated on radiographic requisition. Recognizes need for and follows isolation precautions.
Independently implements patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Explains the procedure and equipment to the patient clearly. Solves problems that arise during patient examinations using both technical knowledge and innovation. Alters examination to maximize information in response to patients condition. Confers with other technologists concerning previous approaches utilized.
Demonstrates skill in equipment set-up, utilization and proper maintenance procedure. Performs visual and manual quality control checks of radiograhic equipment. Uses imaging and peripheral equipment, in a safe and productive manner in accordance with prescribed hospital, departmental and manufacturers procedures. Observes and reports any malfunctioning of the equipment and notifies appropriate persons in case of missing or damaged equipment.
Directs and monitors student clinical training. Observes the student during clinical training guide them to perform good ultrasound procedures. Conveys information to students to increase their level of understanding. Evaluates the students progress in clinical areas. Monitors the work performed by students under their supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Certificate from an approved ultrasound/vascular technology education program. Registered or registry eligible to take the Registry exam (ARDMS) within 1 year of hire date.

Job Summary:
Schedules patients and operates equipment to perform diagnostic medical sonograms in accordance with protocols in order to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment. Follows established policies and procedures set by the department, hospital, state, ACR, TJC, and OSHA.
Key Accountabilities:
Performs ultrasound diagnostic procedures by selecting appropriate transducers and correct scanning sequences to produce an accurate image to assist the radiologist in the diagnosis.
Assesses physician's order for completeness by reviewing the requisition and patient's chart to ensure correct examination is performed the first time.
Establishes the testing schedule by prioritizing requests for procedures so that critically ill patients are treated and appropriate physician and staff levels are available.
Performs and documents quarterly quality assurance tests on equipment by following established professional protocols as required by TJC and to maintain integrity of the system.
Participates in invasive radiological procedures by assisting the radiologist in performing the procedure and producing images in order to provide therapeutic and diagnostic services.
Maintains the ultrasound equipment in good operating order. Clean and disinfect equipment and area after each use. Maintain work area in an orderly manner. Report any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to supervisor.
Demonstrates yearly competencies, including knowledge and behaviors, to conduct examinations and meet the needs of patients with regard to the patient's age, condition or other special requirements.
Routinely prepare examination for interpretation by the radiologist to include correct identification and processing. Set up images in PACs system. Accurately inputs data in the RIS by tracking actual procedure in order to capture all charges and other relevant information for patient billing and to determine department resource allocation, billing and inventory.
Possess computer skills appropriate to meet departmental needs in preparation of reports and correspondence.
Works effectively as a team member within the department and with other units to provide quality service through communication, cooperation and collaboration. Provides clinical supervision and instruction to students by maintaining and understanding of policies, procedures, and the clinical competency process (in order to evaluate student growth and competence in performing radiographic procedures).

Independently evaluates and documents a wide variety of complex sonographic (ultrasound) examinations, utilizing non-ionizing high frequency ultrasonic waves. Produces high quality imaging of required anatomy, for use by Provider in patient diagnosis. Performs specialized procedures requiring advanced knowledge/techniques. Utilizes multiple adjustments, settings and variable controls on complex instruments/equipment to produce and enhance images. May assist with orientation and training of new staff.
