Responsibilities
Perform vascular diagnostic procedures to detect peripheral vascular disease or obstructions.
Evaluate patient for presence of peripheral vascular disease by selecting most effective procedures within regulatory and compliance guidelines.
Perform appropriate diagnostic procedures, record patient test results, and report results.
Monitor patient comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities, or changes in patient responses.
Maintain adequate supplies and verify all equipment is in proper working condition; report deficiencies and failures.
Position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
Ensure all activities comply with regulatory agency standards.
Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers, and patient data/history).
Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area, and any other areas in department.
Requirements
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date rquired. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
One or more of the following required:
Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Any specialty can be accepted
Sonography Tech specializing in Vascular Sonography credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Any specialty can be accepted
Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Any specialty accepted. Radiologic Technologist issued by Radiology Tech licensure issued by the Illinois Emergency Mgmt Agency required in combination with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Education:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform patient evaluation and assessment prior to ultrasound examination within scope of practice
Perform ultrasound examination of patients and create a diagram demonstrating venous anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology to assist the physician in recommending a safe, effective treatment plan
Assist the Physician in educating the patient on the treatment plan and how the treatment plan addresses the patient's specific needs

Develop and maintain a high level of skills commensurate with the standards set by the National Medical Director through continued education and interaction with other VCA Ultrasound Technologists
Maintain equipment and manage the supply inventory to ensure continued and effective operations
Clean and maintain designated ultrasound and procedure rooms following each procedure or scan and at the end of the day to ensure smooth patient flow throughout the day

PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. It is the responsibility of the technologist to develop consistency in delivery of patient care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty(s) as appropriate to include OB/GYN, ABD, and/or RVT certification/ or Certification by American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) to include RVT certification. Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty(s) as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring physicians when required, according to established procedures.
Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required.
Assumes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the sonographic area/department.
Reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
Provides in-service education to team on requirements of sonographic procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: The normal work schedule will be 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, Monday - Friday. Primary Responsibilities
Work cooperatively with Radiologic Technologists, Physicians, and a variety of allied health professionals to deliver comprehensive health care services to VA inpatient and outpatients.
Perform a broad range of high quality, diagnostic ultrasound scans for FHCC patients including pediatric, adult and adult geriatric.
Examinations to be performed include but are not limited to: General Ultrasound examinations such as thyroid, abdomen, pelvis, retroperitoneal, scrotum, testicular, transvaginal, and first trimester fetal; breast US examinations; vascular Doppler imaging including ankle-brachial indices and other examinations utilizing Photo-Plethysmorgraphy (PPG); and doppler ultrasound examinations of the carotid arteries, upper and lower extremity vasculature, and abdominal vasculature.
Process images for interpretation. Begin and complete exams in Oracle/Cerner Electronic Health Record (EHR) applications as necessary. Scans necessary documentation, edits, and completes exams in PACS.
Assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and equipment.
Recognize emergency situations relative to the ultrasound environment and exercise initiative in resolving. Use good judgment in carrying out emergency measures and procedures for obtaining medical assistance.
Describe imaging procedures to patients to encourage their cooperation and lower their anxieties relative to examinations performed.
Minimum Qualifications
Full and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia. An ARRT-US license or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification.
At least one year of experience performing general and vascular ultrasound examinations.
Contractor staff shall have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by a provider recognized by the American Heart Association.
Contractor's staff must be computer literate as patient documentation is directly inputted in the patient's electronic medical record. FHCC will provide training on the EHR.

This is a FULL TIME position. Flexibility with the schedule is a must. NO weekend call. No late night shifts.
PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. It is the responsibility of the technologist to develop consistency in delivery of patient care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty(s) as appropriate to include OB/GYN, ABD, and/or RVT certification/ or Certification by American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) to include RVT certification. Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty(s) as appropriate.
Experience: Sonographer with 6 months+ experience in Sonography
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring physicians when required, according to established procedures.
Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required.
Assumes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the sonographic area/department.
Reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
Provides in-service education to team on requirements of sonographic procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Demonstration of Skills and Abilities
Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment.
Ability to evaluate sonograms in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
Ability to integrate diagnostic sonograms, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt sonographic examination as necessary.
Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
Ability to evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic information to the attending physician.
Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and patient's needs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and health care team.
Ability to follow established departmental procedures.
