Provide health care services, applying sonic energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment while performing ultrasonic imaging and related procedures for OB/GYN, with general US exposure if desired. Demonstrates anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner and/or Maternal Fetal Medicine Perinatologist. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.
Responsibilities:
Performs diagnostic procedures; scans including but not limited to Detailed Anatomy, Multiples, Twin to Twin checks, and fetal dopplers.
Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
Prepares patient for procedures; provides instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
Selects and operates ultrasound equipment, and associated devices to achieve desired results.
Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination.
Determines ultrasonic frequencies and appropriate transducers for the anatomic area of interest.
Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded.
Verifies informed consent for, and assists a licensed practitioner with, interventional procedures.
Practices aseptic techniques as necessary.
Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and emotional needs of patients during procedures.
In agreement with state statute(s) and/or where institutional policy permits prepares, identifies, and/or administers contrast media and/or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
Initiates basic life support action when necessary.
Maintains knowledge of and observes Universal precautions.
Provides patient education.
Assists in maintaining records, respecting confidentiality and established policy.
Assumes responsibility for assigned area and report equipment malfunction.
Provides input for equipment purchase and supply decisions.
Provides practical instruction for students and/or other health care professionals.
Participates in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan. May be responsible for specific quality control duties in the assigned area.
May be responsible for control of inventory and purchase of supplies for the assigned area.
Understands and applies patient relations skills.
Pursues the appropriate continuing education needed to maintain license or certification.
Accomplishes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Graduate of Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited sonography program
Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, or equivalent approved certification with current OB experience.
Licensed in the State of Oregon as an Ultra Sonographer or Radiologic Technologist/Sonographer.
MFM experience preferred.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

Screens patient before exam for any precautions or contradictions pertaining to examination, using two patient identifiers to ensure correct patient and procedure
Explains and prepares patients for Ultrasound imaging procedures that will be performed, explaining the procedure, positioning patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately
Performs routine and advanced Ultrasound imaging procedures on designated portions of the body for use by physicians in the diagnosing and treating of patient illness and/or injury with minimal amount of supervision or repeats scanned, while providing patient support by talking to patients throughout procedure
Adjusts Ultrasound scan parameters correctly and as needed
Maintains positive attitude and working relationships with radiologist, referring customers and other associates and peers
Follows physicians' orders precisely and conforms to safety regulations to protect yourself, your patients, and coworkers
Accurately maintains patient records within Radiology Information System (RIS)
Maintains an orderly and clean work area promoting good safety habits for patients and co-workers
Maintains ACR toolkit and accreditation requirements
Maintains equipment in good working order; cleans and disinfects equipment after each use

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Echocardiography department provides a licensed technologists at all four St. Charles Hospitals as well as Echocardiography services at our clinics. These technologists provide Echocardiography services 24/7 for the diagnosis and treatment of patients in the Echo Lab, OR, ER, Cath Lab, and all patient care floors throughout the hospitals. As part of our community outreach these technologists provide Echocardiography services to our outreach hospitals throughout Eastern Oregon.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Echocardiographer performs cardiovascular ultrasound procedures and related tasks according to provider orders utilizing knowledge and judgement regarding imaging technique and patient treatment. Database network oversight ensuring timely follow-thru of ECHO/CV Ultrasound performance, interpretation and reporting back to appropriate providers and facilities. This position does not directly supervise any other caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Performs and produces accurate and interpretable cardiovascular Ultrasounds per St. Charles Health System policies, procedures and established guidelines.
Conducts timely office procedures (charges, charge audits, editing, filing, data collection, ordering, other) as required by St. Charles Health System.
Ensures that charges are entered, audited in an accurate and timely manner. Ensures that all cardiovascular ultrasounds/Echos are read daily and dispersed back to the referring physicians and facilities.
Provides timely report and database entry completion and maintains St. Charles Health System Echo database network and provides clinical oversight and troubleshooting for the system.
Remains proficient in administration of ultrasound contrast agent per St. Charles Health System policies and procedures.
Remains proficient in ultrasound bubble studies per St. Charles Health System policies and procedures.
Performs cleaning of TEE Probes, TTE Probes and Echo Machines according to St. Charles Health System policies and procedures.
Responsible for inventory oversight and communicates equipment and supply needs to the responsible party.
Prepares comprehensive reports for the cardiologist.
Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory agencies in Electronic Medical Records.
Participates in call rotation.

EDUCATION:
Required: Graduate of accredited certificate program
Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's Degree in related field.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Required: Current BLS/CPR Health Care Provider certification. Current OBMI License. RDCS-AE or RCS required within 90 days of hire. Valid Oregon Driver's License and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
Preferred: RDCS-PE, RDCS-FE, RCCS.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Six (6) months of direct patient care experience in cardiovascular ultrasound.
Preferred: One (1) year of direct patient care experience in cardiovascular ultrasound.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Obtains essential information from patients;
Instructs patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure;
Helps patient transfer to exam table and ensures adequate patient immobilization to perform the scan;
Must know how to change scanning parameters to improve a scan; obtains diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient with the transducer; submits diagnostic ultrasound exam to physician for interpretation. Body parts may include: Scrotal, renal/bladder, transvaginal, abdominal for prostate volume.
Assists in performing life-saving techniques (CPR, first aid) to the patient if necessary.
Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination. Handles blood and body fluids and deals with infectious patients.
Performs patient care tasks as appropriate & assists with patient teaching.
Documents appropriate information with US records; as well as EMR documentation.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of ultrasound exam policies, protocols.
Knowledge of operating PC and accessing applicable.
SKILLS:
Skill in production of sonograms meeting physician expectations.
Skill in obtaining information via computer.
ABILITIES:
Ability to effectively care for patients and families across all points of the adult/adolescent continuum including physiological care, psychosocial care, education, safety and appropriate criteria.
Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with Interdepartmental personnel.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in designated ultrasound room. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting for prolonged periods of time and some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary for the operation of basic office equipment such as a computer, calculate, copier and telephone. May be required to lift up to 25 lbs. Requires the ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions:
Combination of walking, bending, reaching, lifting, transferring activities. Must be able to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately. Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

Certificate maintained. OMBI State License

Job Summary
Responsible for providing quality patient care while producing ultrasound images and patterns used for patient diagnosis and treatment. The responsibilities also include completing scans effectively and efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of patient care possible in order to provide the most remarkable patient experience.
Essential Functions
* Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures which may include transporting, transferring, immobilizing, and positioning patients
* Explain procedures to patients taking into consideration physical and emotional needs
* Independently perform Ultrasound exams on patients providing high quality images
* Records digital images as directed for radiologist interpretation
* Assists physician in needle biopsies, renal biopsies, etc.
* Maintains pertinent records
Qualifications
* Education Requirements - Satisfactory completion of formal Ultrasound Training program.
* Licensure Required: Registration or registration eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)(RDMS) and must be certified within 12 months of hire.
* CPR/BLS Certified
