    Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist - PRN Reports To: Clinical Operations Manager Type of Shift: PRN JOB SUMMARY: The General Sonographer performs a variety of ultrasound procedures in an outpatient setting while maintaining a high level of customer service and quality patient care. The responsibilities of the General Sonographer include performing routine ultrasound procedures following the protocols established by the radiologist and demonstrating compassion to ensure overall patient satisfaction. This is a PRN position and will be scheduled on an as needed basis. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs routine ultrasound procedures following the protocols established by the radiologist. Patients are positioned and scanned correctly assuring that the physician prescription and scan are the same. 2. Properly inputs all required patient information into the system including protocol, patient history, referring providers, and any additional information to the radiologist regarding the procedure. 3. Obtains complete and detailed history to assist the radiologist with diagnosis from each patient. Performs exams in an accurate and timely manner. 4. Properly identifies patients and demonstrates compassion while maintaining patient confidentiality. Explains the exam to each patient to ensure patient safety and cooperation. 5. Maintains exam rooms by stocking exam rooms with necessary supplies. Maintains equipment and reports any equipment malfunctions to the supervisor or appropriate service provider. 6. Properly windows and levels images for film printing and burns CDs as necessary. 7. Promotes teamwork by assisting other staff as needed. Performs other duties as required. 8. Customer Service. WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 3 or more years in the Sonography field is preferred. High School Diploma or GED. Completion of a course in Ultrasound; Current RDMS and RVT certifications are required. SKILLS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Skills in properly positioning patients and obtaining diagnostic images, identifying equipment problems, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and public. This job requires prolonged sitting or standing, frequent bending, stooping, or stretching; Must be able to see with or without corrective eyewear, must be able to hear clearly, with or without assistance. This position may require lifting 50 plus pounds.

    The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonography equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations, e.g., vascular, breast, kidney, abdominal, BPP, etc. Performs diagnostic OB/GYN sonography as prescribed by the physician. Submits diagnostic ultrasound exam to physician for interpretation. Uses cognitive sonography skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological and diagnostic information and images. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient during the procedure. Maintains a safe workplace environment and ensures adequate supplies. Checks to ensure that equipment operates at an acceptable performance level. Contacts manufacturer for equipment repairs and maintenance check. Ensures high level of customer service. Uses cognitive sonography skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. Uses independent judgment during the sonography exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonography information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate provider. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care. Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies.     The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonography equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The Sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the sonography area, basic equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessments (QA). PRIMARY FUNCTIONS Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations, e.g., vascular, breast, kidney, abdominal, BPP, etc. Performs diagnostic OB/GYN sonography as prescribed by the physician. Submits diagnostic ultrasound exam to physician for interpretation. Uses cognitive sonography skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological and diagnostic information and images. Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient during the procedure. Maintains a safe workplace environment and ensures adequate supplies. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is highly desirable. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Ability to effectively operate sonography equipment. Ability to evaluate sonograms in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information. Ability to integrate diagnostic sonograms, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt sonography examination as necessary. Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of sonography examinations and patient's needs.
