The Pediatric & Congenital Echocardiography Sonographer performs comprehensive diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations on neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults with congenital heart disease. This role requires advanced knowledge of congenital cardiac anatomy, strong technical expertise, and the ability to provide compassionate, developmentally appropriate care in a tertiary or quaternary pediatric hospital environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive pediatric and congenital transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE), including complex congenital heart disease assessments
Perform echocardiographic studies on neonates, infants (including NICU), children, adolescents, and adults with repaired or unrepaired congenital heart disease
Assist with and perform stress echocardiography, contrast studies, and agitated saline studies as ordered
Acquire and optimize high-quality images, Doppler measurements, and hemodynamic assessments tailored to congenital anatomy
Recognize, document, and communicate significant congenital and acquired cardiac findings to pediatric cardiologists promptly
Provide age-appropriate patient and family education and emotional support during procedures
Collaborate with pediatric cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, nurses, and multidisciplinary congenital care teams
Support perioperative, ICU, catheterization lab, and emergency department imaging needs
Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) and image archiving systems
Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of echocardiography equipment
Adhere to hospital policies, patient safety standards, infection control protocols, and HIPAA regulations
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research activities, and continuing education
Qualifications
Required:
Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology program
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association)
Minimum of 2 years of pediatric and/or congenital echocardiography experience in a hospital setting
Highly skilled new graduates with dedicated pediatric/congenital training may be considered
Strong knowledge of pediatric and congenital cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology
Preferred:
Pediatric Echocardiography specialty (RDCS PE) through ARDMS

Essential Responsibilities

· Warms up US machines in the morning upon arrival to work and ensures that machines are in good working order. Ensures that US rooms are stocked with sufficient supplies for all exams scheduled for that day.

· Performs all diagnostic ultrasound exams in a safe manner in accordance with standard protocol and procedures and selects the appropriate equipment for use in the general ultrasound exams to obtain images required for ordered exam.
· Manages patient schedules. Maintains monthly log of sterile technique for vaginal probe
· Prepares work areas and materials as necessary for the completion of exams.
· Demonstrates ability to perform diagnostic imaging exams for general ultrasound departments as outlined in the department protocols to include abdomen, gynecologic, small parts, vascular studies and FNA of soft tissue. Assists in the performance of invasive procedures with proper sterile technique followed.
· Enters test data and patient information into the machine if not available in the system work list. Provides a technologist summary in the PAC'S system that includes pertinent data acquired necessary for physician exam interpretation.
· Consistently uses patient identifiers before performing an exam. Respect patient dignity.
· Maintains and advances skills through continuing education to improve scanning skills and increase technical knowledge in the general ultrasound scanning field to improve patient care.
· Meets regulatory requirements for certification renewal and complies with Tower's in-services training, attendance, punctuality, uniform and dress code.
· Maintains utmost confidentiality in handling company and sensitive patient information, documents and films/CD's. Meets all requirements for confidential information management, including access and distribution controls, password policies, HIPAA and CPI compliance, secure filing and disposal, and records retention and storage.

Essential Responsibilities

· Maintains and advances skills through continuing education to improve scanning skills and increase technical knowledge in the general ultrasound scanning field to improve patient care.
· Meets regulatory requirements for certification renewal and complies with Tower's in-services training, attendance, punctuality, uniform and dress code.
· Maintains utmost confidentiality in handling company and sensitive patient information, documents and films/CD's. Meets all requirements for confidential information management, including access and distribution controls, password policies, HIPAA and CPI compliance, secure filing and disposal, and records retention and storage.

· Certifications and Licensures - Current ARDMS certification; current BLS provide card.
