The Ultrasound Technologist will perform a wide variety of routine and advanced imaging procedures, will provide support for other imaging technologists as needed, and help to facilitate smooth and efficient patient flow. The Ultrasound Technologist must be able to handle the movement, set-up, and operation of medical ultrasound equipment. The technologist will demonstrate flexibility by working other shifts and/or at other campuses as needed or required. The technologist must be able to troubleshoot basic maintenance, participate in QA, and resolve issues related to image processing and the image archiving system. Expectation to participate in ongoing education, safety, and technical advances within their scope of licensure. The technologist will adhere to, and maintain, the expected imaging competencies as outlined by management. Behavior and communication skills must align with the organization's mission, values, and culture.
Responsibilities

Performs examinations/procedures as needed to assist in patient throughput within the scope of the Manager's license(s), certification(s), and/or documented competencies.
Demonstrates flexibility by working other shifts and at other campuses as needed or required.
Ensures completed exams are scanned and stored correctly in PACS.
Ability to follow PACS downtime procedures as a PACS Superuser and escalate any problem(s) or issue(s) to the PACS administrator or Designee if needed.
Troubleshoots and reports any equipment malfunctions to the Director/Manager and/or Biomedical personnel; does appropriate follow-up.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology or other accepted and approved equivalent required
Experience
2 years of ultrasound scanning experience in an MFM setting required
Basic computer experience required
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
Requires one of the following within 1 year of hire:
Sonography (S) by ARRT
Abdomen (AB) RDMS by ARDMS
Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) RDMS by ARDMS
Prefers one of the following, along with the required:

Identifies fetal anomalies, such as CNS, maxillofacial, cardiothoracic, abdomen, abdomen wall, genitourinary, extremity placental, umbilical cord growth disturbance. Performs ultrasounds on maternal uterus, cervix and ovaries. Performs complicated twin and triplet scans in conjunction with in-office multiple gestation service. Identifies gynological anomalies such as fibroids, thickened endometrium and polyps.
Makes preliminary, equivocal diagnosis of gynological and fetal disorders in the organ systems mentioned in above.
Operates General Electric, Accuson, Medison, and ATL ultrasound machines with proficiency. Continues to expand knowledge of latest technology.
Maintains ultrasound logging records including past medical history, past surgical history, past obstetric history, and past genetic history.
Prepares patients for procedures including and not limited to Level I &II ultrasounds, amniocentesis, lung maturity amniocentesis, PUBS, anmio reduction, external cephalic version, and GYN ultrasound.
Maintains professional relationship with other staff members, other obstetric offices and hospital personnel.
Exercises independent judgement when interpreting Biophysical Profiles designed to assess fetal well-being. Alerts physicians of potentially dangerous conditions. Diagnoses fetal weight disturbances based on fetal biometry. Diagnoses multiple fetal anomalies and reports and demonstrates them to physician.

PURPOSE
Provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency and has completed appropriate ARDMS certification, which is the standard of practice in ultrasound. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and abnormal findings.
Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
Assists with the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory.
Completes daily log of patients seen / completes billing forms.
Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies.
Participates in the potential maintenance of laboratory accreditation.
Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating referral offices, hospitals, or commercial agencies.
Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
Regular and dependable attendance.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates with other staff to ensure appropriate care is provided, including traveling to other clinics to assist when needed.
Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
Provides in-service education team on requirements of sonographic procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Required: High school diploma or GED. Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). One (1) or more years of experience performing OB/GYN ultrasound.
Preferred: Experience in an accredited perinatology setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment.
Ability to evaluate sonograms in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
Ability to integrate diagnostic sonograms, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt sonographic examination as necessary.
Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
Ability to evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic information to the attending physician.
Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and patient's needs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and health care team.
Ability to follow established departmental procedures.
Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.
Must be customer oriented in order to provide outstanding services to patients, physicians and co-workers.
Ability to maintain awareness of patient privacy, confidentiality and dignity at all times.

Excellent computer and keyboarding skills, including familiarity with Windows.

Certificate/License
Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in specialty.
Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty as appropriate.
Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card or within 60 days of hire required.
Work Schedule: Full Time/Part Time schedule available between Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. Working at the Seton Northwest, ARC North Austin OBGyn, and Medical Plaza Specialty (CP) clinic locations.
