Summary
Serves as the specialist for advanced and new ultrasound programs and examinations. This position provides guidance to medical sonography students and is a resource to ultrasound staff.

Essential Functions
-Provides on-the-job instruction to employees in ultrasound procedures.
-Provides for clinical experience of diagnostic medical sonography students, instructing and guiding students through ultrasound procedures.
-Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures, which may include transporting, transferring, immobilizing, and positioning patients.
-Explain procedures to patients, taking into consideration physical and emotional needs.
-Independently provides advanced UltrasoundTechnologist practitioner procedural activities, which may include echocardiogram, vascular, doppler, etc.
-Records digital images as directed for radiologist interpretation.
-Assists physician in needle biopsies, renal biopsies, etc.
Qualifications
Education Associate's Degree Diagnostic Imaging required or Associate's Degree Diagnostic Medical Sonographer required and Bachelor's Degree Health Sciences preferred Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? Summary
Under general supervision and following established procedures, the incumbent operates ultrasound imaging equipment to acquire images and communicates sonographer impressions to interpreting physicians. The incumbent must have problem-solving skills and be an active participant in departmental initiatives. The incumbent must effectively communicate with students, peers, patients, and physicians to ensure the safety and quality of imaging. Exercises independent judgment to modify scan techniques for optimal image quality. The incumbent participates in call, holiday, and shift rotations as required by the department. May be required to rotate among the main campus and community radiology locations, with appropriate training.

Patient and exam verification:
• Ensures that two points of patient identification, date of birth & full name are obtained to verify that the correct patient is being treated.
• Reviews the order for exam and indications, and the patient's chart for pertinent clinical history.
• Prepares and cleans the equipment and room for each patient. Stock supplies to ensure rooms are ready to care for patients.
-Patient Care & Collaboration:
• Uses clear communication when explaining the exam to the patient, taking into consideration physical and emotional needs. Ensures understanding and maintains ethical standards (patient confidentiality, professional conduct, etc.).

Screens patient before exam for any precautions or contradictions pertaining to examination, using two patient identifiers to ensure the correct patient and procedure
Explains and prepares patients for sonography imaging procedures that will be performed, explaining the procedure, positioning patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately imaged
Performs routine and advanced Sonography imaging procedures on designated portions of the body for use by physicians in the diagnosing and treating of patient illness and/or injury with minimal amount of supervision or repeats scanned, while providing patient support by talking to patients throughout procedure
Adjusts sonography scan parameters correctly and as needed
Follows physicians' orders precisely, conforms to safety regulations, to and accurately maintains patient records within Radiology Information System (RIS)
Maintains an orderly and clean work area, including sanitizing equipment, to promote good safety habits for patients and team members
Maintains the American College of Radiology (ACR) toolkit and accreditation requirements

Assist with maintaining an updated imaging protocol manual and software upgrades
Monitor medical supply inventory and requests supplies as necessary
Assist with the training of new team members, providing resource and technical expertise, as applicable
