Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Ultrasound Sonographer to provide high-quality imaging in an inpatient and outpatient setting, catering to a diverse patient demographic from adolescents to older adults.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
Active and Clear ARRT certification or ARDMS accepted.
Minimum of 2 years of sonographer experience.
Vascular experience is required.
Must be flexible according to the facility's scheduling needs.

Summary:
The UltrasoundTechnologist (Sonographer) - Gen/Vascular uses high-frequency sound waves to generate images of patients' internal organs and blood vessels. They ensure patients are prepped for examinations, perform ultrasound scans, and analyze sonograms for diagnostic purposes. The role requires advanced technical skills, patient-centered care, and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Essential Work Functions:
Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology
Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to integrate diagnostic imaging into patient care plans
Prepare and position patient to ensure accurate imaging and prioritize their comfort and safety
Perform clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations of general and vascular studies
Evaluate images for clarity and accuracy
Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot all ultrasound equipment to ensure functionality and compliance with safety standards
Apply technical expertise and critical thinking to perform sonographic procedures effectively
Work efficiently in fast-paced and high-pressure environments while maintaining professionalism
Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with legal and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills:

Obtains pertinent patient medical history to optimize the exam for appropriateness. With assistance from more senior sonographer, reviews old echocardiographic studies for correlation.
Prepares exam room and ultrasound equipment to perform cardiac ultrasound studies in accordance with universal precautions to insure patient safety per approved protocols, policies and procedures. Communicate with the patient in a manner that is appropriate for patient understanding.
Obtains vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, height and weight. Evaluates any contraindications that may be limiting to exam completeness. Use of proper patient positioning along with ergonomically correct scanning techniques to insure patient and sonographer comfort and safety.
Works with more senior sonographer to perform the necessary cardiac measurements to generate preliminary findings and image acquisition/storage to support the interpreting physician of the finalized diagnostic report. Gain knowledge of cardiac structural findings and understand relevance.
Maintains active registry status in adult cardiac sonography (RDCS/RCS) through continuing professional educational credits. Attends echo conferences offered at URMC and/or attends local and national Echocardiography/Cardiology conferences to increase clinical knowledge base. Maintains active status in BLS (Basic Life Support).
Keeps lab and exam rooms in clean, working order, including cleaning ultrasound equipment and transducers according to lab policy. Reports all equipment malfunctions and problems to lead sonographer. Keeps all inventory and supplies current and stocked in each exam room.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's degree required.
2 years of experience in cardiac imaging or related field or successful completion of accredited cardiac echo sonographer training program required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications
Associates or Bachelors degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field (preferred).
Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program.
ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) certification required.
Minimum 2 years of relevant urology or genitourinary imaging experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with clinical staff and patients.
Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy, attention to detail, and professional judgment in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities:
Performs diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. Responsible for providing a wide range of highly technical diagnostic exams including but not limited to: abdominal, small parts, GYN, abdominal and peripheral vascular, portable exams and interventional procedures.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
Performs ultrasound imaging and therapy in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.
Adjusts equipment controls as needed in order to produce high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed
Prepares room and patient specific to the exam to be performed. Uses an established work pattern to work efficiently and safely within an ultrasound environment. Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
Maintains accurate patient record keeping by properly identifying images and assuring images are sent to the PACS system correctly
Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Adheres to safety policies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related Associates Degree with a Certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Must be registered or registry eligible by the ARDMS.
Non-registered sonographers must obtain ARDMS Abdominal and OB/GYN certifications within a year of hire.
