Job Overview:
AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified UltrasoundTechnologist to deliver diagnostic sonographic procedures at Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center, Ft. Belvoir. This role supports a full spectrum of patient care inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services. The technologist is expected to independently perform a wide range of ultrasound exams, manage equipment maintenance, ensure quality documentation, and contribute to quality improvement efforts.
General Duties:
Provide ultrasound imaging services under the scope of privileges and responsibilities set by the MTF.
Perform tasks in line with federal, DHA, and Joint Commission healthcare delivery standards.
Specific Duties:
Operate ultrasound equipment and perform exams across multiple areas including:
Abdominal, pelvic, OB/GYN, vascular, breast, thyroid, testicular, and more.
Use cognitive sonography skills to identify, evaluate, and document diagnostic findings.
Independently distinguish between normal and abnormal anatomy.
Schedule, coordinate, and report on ultrasound exams.
Maintain operational logs, manage daily schedules, and support clinic efficiency.
Perform calibration and basic maintenance of ultrasound machines.
Participate in clinical documentation, mandatory training, and quality improvement.
Ensure patient safety and maintain a professional and respectful environment at all times.
Qualifications:
Degree/Education: Must provide transcript verifying Technologist education.
Certification:
Must have and maintain current ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography) registration.
Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or Red Cross).
Licensure: Must hold a valid, unrestricted Ultrasound license from any U.S. jurisdiction.
Experience:
At least 2 years of total ultrasound experience.
At least 1 year of recent (within past 2 years) clinical hospital-based hands-on experience.
Board Certification: Not required beyond ARDMS.
Additional Requirements: Competency testing upon onboarding (including OB, Doppler, extremities, etc.)
Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in conducting independent ultrasound exams across various specialties.
Strong understanding of sonographic physics and anatomy.
Skilled in managing clinical schedules and reporting.
Effective communication with patients and care teams.
Adaptability for varied shifts and hospital needs
Schedule:
Shift-Evening shifts preferred 3 pm to 11:30 pm (M-F)
Max 40 hours/week.
Occasional overnight shifts based on department need
Work Environment:
Federal military medical facility (MTF).
Must be comfortable working in a high-paced, mission-critical setting.
Will interact with military personnel, veterans, and families.
Immunization Requirement:
Must meet all immunization and health screening requirements, including:
Tuberculosis testing
Seasonal flu vaccine
N95 respirator fit testing
Security Requirement:

Effectively interacts with students, consistently providing supervision and instruction. Is supportive of the MWH School of Radiologic Technology and the ultrasound cross-training program.
Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure their continued availability and non-interruption of services.
Reports, records, and files patient information and procedural data in order to accurately document department operations and facilitate timely accurate billing for services.
Participates in performance improvement activities for the Ultrasound department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Completion of accredited program in ultrasound or MWHC/MIF cross-training program, or twelve months relevant experience required.
BLS certification required.
ARDMS (AB or OB/GYN or RVT) or ARRT (S) required:
If not ARDMS (OB/GYN) registered at time of hire, registry required within six months of hire.
Effective as of March 2021, if not ARDMS (RVT) registered at time of hire, registry required within 12 months of hire.
Registry in Abdomen (AB) and Pediatric Sonography (PS) preferred.
ARRT (R) registered in Radiologic Technology preferred.
Three years relevant experience preferred.

The Ultrasonographer produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with appropriate comparison studies and other exam results or pertinent information to the Radiologist for interpretation.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Prepares patients for ultrasound examinations by confirming providers' orders, verifying patients' identities, and obtaining adequate medical histories to ensure the appropriateness of examinations and facilitate timely accurate diagnosis of the patient.
Performs ultrasound examinations/procedures on all patient age groups and clinical conditions and maintains clinical and technical competency as evidenced by completion of an annual Competency Based Orientation Tool for Clinical Associates in Ultrasound.
Adheres to departmental policies, procedures, standards, and protocols to ensure effective departmental operations and quality patient care.
Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge and understanding of ultrasound services/operations.
Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Disinfects equipment and ultrasound probes according to MWHC and proper infection control standards.
Adheres to standard precautions at all times.
Effectively interacts with students, consistently providing supervision and instruction.
Is supportive of the MWH School of Radiologic Technology and the ultrasound cross-training program.
Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure their continued availability and non-interruption of services.
Reports, records, and files patient information and procedural data in order to accurately document department operations and facilitate timely accurate billing for services.
Participates in performance improvement activities for the Ultrasound department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Completion of accredited program in ultrasound or MWHC/MIF cross-training program, or twelve months relevant experience required.
BLS certification required.
ARDMS (AB or OB/GYN or RVT) or ARRT (S) required:
If not ARDMS (OB/GYN) registered at time of hire, registry required within six months of hire.
Effective as of June 2021, if not ARDMS (BR) registered at time of hire, registry required within 12 months of hire. If not ARDMS (RVT) registered at time of hire, registry required within 24 months of hire.
Registry in Abdomen (AB) and Pediatric Sonography (PS) preferred.
Three years relevant experience preferred.
Experience with applicable EMR, Radiology, and information systems preferred.
