To perform diagnostic general and vascular ultrasound examinations, analyze images, and communicate findings to interpreting physician for diagnosis and treatment by attending physicians. To ensure that ultrasound examination is of acceptable quality and that equipment is functioning properly. The ultrasound technologist is responsible for some clerical duties in the department.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification
ARDMS - registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in Abdomen required upon start date. ARDMS certification must be maintained throughout employment.
RVT - registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in Vascular required upon start date.
CPR Certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required upon start date.
Education (Experience can be substituted for education)
Associate's Degree.
Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
Experience (Education can be substituted for experience)

* Ensures all exams are ordered correctly in HIS/RIS, charged and tracked accurately.
* Communicates with patient before procedure, explains risks and what can be expected; communicates during procedure to monitor safety and comfort.

* Conducts scan according to set protocol per organ or anatomical site; accurately annotates images.

**Responsibilities**
Perform high complexity, detailed exams including first trimester screening, level II ultrasound, fetal echocardiogram, amniocentesis chorionic villus sampling, and multiples.
+ Scan high risk obstetric patients under the supervision of Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) physicians. Prepare examination reports and communicate clinical information and ultrasound findings to the physician.
+ Perform high quality and comprehensive obstetric ultrasound exams in accordance with established departmental guidelines and protocols.
+ Screen during first trimester for chromosomal and structural anomalies and transvaginal assessment of cervical length. Perform fetal echocardiography.
+ Perform routine and comprehensive anatomy examinations including biophysical profiles and growth assessments.
+ Assist with ultrasound guidance during invasive procedures including genetic amniocentesis, transvaginal and transcervical chorionic villus biopsy, and fetal blood transfusion. Educates patient on the ultrasound procedure.
+ Exercise discretion and judgment in the performance of diagnostic exams. Adhere to the standard of care and maintains a safe environment.
**Requirements**
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
Required Credential(s):
+ BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
+ Medical Sonographer specializing in Obstetrics & Gynecology credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
+ Credentialed in Fetal Echocardiography from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within 24 months of hire date or job transfer date.
Education:
+ High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate'sdegree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
**Additional Preferences**
Prior experience in maternal fetal medicine highly prioritized.
