    Schedules: Full-time, 80 hours per pay period; Monday-Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm No weekends & paid holidays · Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information. · Ensure that the sonography examination order is complete, contains relevant information, and meets the standard of medical necessity. · Evaluate any contraindications, insufficient patient preparation, and the patient's inability or unwillingness to tolerate the examination and associated procedures. · Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures. · Select transducer and makes equipment adjustments according to nature of test, depth of field, and other specifications of test. · Use proper patient positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety, and to prevent compromised data acquisition and musculoskeletal injury to the sonographer. · Conduct patient clinical assessment and perform the diagnostic medical sonography examination ordered by the provider in accordance with professional and facility protocols. · Apply independent judgment during the sonography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images to facilitate optimum diagnostic results for the interpreting physician. · Identify and document any limitations to the sonography examination, and any incidental findings that might impact patient safety or patient care and provide that information to the interpreting physician. · Ensure that the sonography examination results meet the facility standards for Quality Assurance before findings are released for interpretation. · Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, to prepare preliminary reports, and communicates finding to the appropriate physician according to established procedures. · Exercise responsibility to ensure that the ultrasound equipment is functioning accurately. · Determine the qualifications who use equipment and administer procedures under the direction of the Radiologist. · Exercise responsibility for the maintenance and accuracy of facility reports, database records and logs. · Carry out Quality Assurance protocols and Quality Improvement measures within the facility. · Maintain a safe and clean work environment. · Transport equipment to do portable exams within the building. · Assist Radiologists and other physicians in the performance of biopsies, and Interventional procedures. · Assist surgeons with ultrasound equipment in the operating room in a sterile environment. · Maintain compliance with continuing medical education requirements. · Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice. Position Requirements: · Two-year degree in ultrasound technology required. Four-year degree preferred. · ARDMS required. · Registry in ABD and OB required within first year of employment. · Registry in breast highly encouraged. · BLS certification required, or ability to obtain within first three months of hire. · 1+ years related work experience in general, OB, breast, and vascular sonography and interventional procedures strongly preferred. · Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities · Intermediate to expert proficiency with computers is required. · Knowledge of human anatomy and disease progression. · Requires assessment, evaluation, and decision-making skills. · Knowledge of a variety of ultrasound equipment and transducers. · Self-starter with excellent compassion, interpersonal communication, oral and written communication, and problem-solving skills.

Whenever applicable, demonstrates understanding of the needs of specific age groups in terms of their physical and motor development, psychosocial development, and intellectual/language development. • Communicates with physicians and patient care areas regarding non-scheduled exams. Coordinates pre-exam, exam and post-exam activities to ensure accurate and timely outcomes. • Assumes responsibility for accurate patient information on all films, radiology requisitions and in the PACS. Delivers completed exams. • Enters post procedure information and changes into the Radiology Information System (RIS) to assure an accurate bill and radiology history for each patient. • Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and needed repairs. Ensures necessary maintenance and repairs are completed in an efficient and timely manner. • Demonstrates knowledge of test standards to adequately perform quality control tests on assigned equipment. Records and reports results to appropriate personnel. • Maintains necessary inventory/equipment in ultrasound area. Rotates stock often to eliminate outdated items. • Performs on call exams, recognizing emergency situations and demonstrating competency in managing the situation. Calls reports to the ordering physician, nursing units and Emergency Department as requested. • Maintains professional acumen through active association with professional organizations; attends in-service educational programs and department meetings. Meets CME requirements as set forth by the ARDMS to remain in active status. • Assists in the clinical instruction of allied health students, medical students and physicians, and evaluates new equipment and products for possible future use. QUALIFICATIONS: Work experience and knowledge of standards and procedures as they relate to ultrasound normally acquired through graduation from a program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The University of Wisconsin Atherosclerosis Imaging Research Program (UW AIRP) is an ultrasound core laboratory for clinical and epidemiological research studies that use ultrasound, electrocardiographic, exercise, and other physiologic research tools to quantify atherosclerosis, arterial injury, and cardiovascular disease risk. QUALIFICATIONS: * Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program * High school diploma or GED * Hospital experience * American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) * ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) registered or registry eligible or ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists-Ultrasound) registered or registry eligible or CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) registered or registry eligible * If registry eligible, MUST be registered within six months of date of hire PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance * Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties WORK ENVIRONMENT: * Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments * Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock * Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents * Occasional high noise level in work environment * Occasional contact with aggressive and/or combative patients * Use of computers throughout the work day * Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers * Repetitive motion of shoulders, arms, wrists, and hands while scanning patients * Frequent sitting with movement through department/hospital Scheduled Weekly Hours: 24 Scheduled FTE: 0.6 Location: ThedaCare Regional Medical Center - Appleton - Appleton,Wisconsin Overtime Exempt: No

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association and Red Cross within three months' of employment. Preferred/Optional: ARDMS or ARRT certified in Sonography Specializing in maternal fetal medicine ultrasounds.
