This position operates or oversees operation of radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. The Radiological Technologist is responsible for monitoring and maintaining essential patient care and safety including practicing ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Follows all Quality Control policies and procedures for compliance with departmental, local, state and federal regulations.
2. Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations, hospital policy, and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
3. Greets patients politely and efficiently.
4. Takes thorough and accurate patient medical histories.
5. Clearly explains procedures to patients in English and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan.
6. Seeks out interpreter services if needed.
7. Sets up examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available and functioning.
8. Prepares and administers oral or injected contrast media to patients as required.
9. Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table and ensures that a quality diagnostic image is produced.
10. Follows sterile techniques according to hospital policy.
11. Operates or positions imaging equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination.
12. Monitors patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician.
13. Reviews and evaluates images or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
14. Dates, labels and marks images according to hospital policy.
15. Records, processes and maintains patient data, documents and treatment records, and sends to PACS.
16. Collaborates with other medical team and administrative staff members, such as physicians and nurses to conduct special procedures or complete administrative duties.
17. Informs supervisor of equipment problems or supply needs.
18. Performs all duties with strict adherence to and compliance with government regulations, hospital policies and procedures, and safety guidelines.
19. Works with students and follows all guidelines and policies associated with students.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Graduate of an accredited radiological technology program.
2. Registered by the ARRT or registry eligible. Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health: Radiation Control Program. Must maintain licensure on an annual basis.
3. CPR certification.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Strong organizational and communication skills.
2. Thoroughly knowledgeable in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care.
3. Ability to communicate clearly in English with patients to explain procedures while making them as comfortable as possible.
4. Ability to follow and comply with procedures, policies and regulations.
5. Ability to work effectively and collaborate with medical staff, personnel, students, and patients.
6. Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English.
Preferred:
1. Prior experience as a Radiology Technologist.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

The Radiology/Bone Densitometry Technologist performs all of the functions of the Radiologic Technologist, with a focus on bone densitometry. The Bone Densitometry Technologist works under the general supervision of a physician to perform DXA scans of spine, hip, forearm, whole body, and vertebral fracture assessment (VFA).
Qualifications
* Associate's degree required. Job Summary
Under the direction of a technical supervisor, incumbent performs radiographic procedures in assigned areas at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply ionizing radiation for Radiologic diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Assumes the role of Clinic Instructor with student radiographers.
Staff may be required to float among radiology clinics associated with BWH as needed. These sites are, but not limited to 75 Francis Street Boston, MA; 850 Boylston Street Chestnut Hill, MA; and 20 Patriot Place Foxborough, MA.
Qualifications
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Performs duties such as transporting, transferring, immobilizing and positioning patients.
* Calculates and selects proper technical factors; operates all equipment as required; acquires and processes Images; properly identifies images with patient I.D. and appropriate markers in order to obtain quality diagnostic images. Provides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards; assists physicians in administering contrast media, practices sterile technique, and performs first aid when necessary.
* Instructs, advises and assists Radiologic Technology students in performing Radiologic exams, sterile technique, proper stocking of supplies in radiographic rooms. Assumes a role of Clinical Instructor with student radiographers.
* Assists in research and Quality Improvement projects.
* Uses radiology information system and Hospital Information Systems that are Integrated with the Department of Radiology to keep patient data up-to-date such as scheduling tracking, along with appropriate Image Services and maintenance responsibilities.
* Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of assigned areas.
* Rotates within department, its divisions, and all off site clinics, by shifts as required and needed; cooperates with all personnel, promoting harmony within department.
* Explains exam to patient taking into consideration physical and emotional needs; maintaining ethical standards (patient confidentiality, professional conduct, etc.)
* Attends staff meetings, in-services, and maintains appropriate CEU's in accordance with Massachusetts's state licensure and A.R.R.T. requirements.
* Instructs advises and assists with the Orientation of new technologists to radiographic procedures and department policies.
* Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed.
* Collects supplies from designated storeroom, stocks and maintains adequate supplies for assigned area.
* Uses independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative under pressure in a variety of situations without constant supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS
* Must have graduated from an approved school of Radiologic Technology.
* Must possess a valid Massachusetts license as a Radiologic Technologist in the category of Radiography.
* To perform mammography, the incumbent must possess a valid Massachusetts license in the category of mammography in addition to radiography.
* Must be Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent.
* 2 - 3 years' experience as a Radiologic Technologist.

Job Summary
The Interventional Technologist Level 1 collaborates during procedures with physicians and senior technical staff and performs diagnostic and interventional radiographic procedures with the utmost concern for the patient's comfort and safety. Operates complex diagnostic and interventional radiographic equipment. Participates in IR procedures within the IR departments, peri-op environments, bedside, and elsewhere as needed. Cross-trains and supports the sub-specialties within IR including and not limited to abdominal procedures, vascular procedures, vascular surgery, Neuro IR, neurosurgery, endoscopic interventions, and cardiac surgery.
Operates multi-modality imaging equipment to support interventional procedures. Ensures proper patient demographics and documentation for appropriate image storage for the medical record. Ensures the patient is properly positioned and immobilized, selects proper imaging factors, and utilizes and initiates fluoroscopy. Assists physicians during the procedure, including and not limited to positioning of the table and/or c-arm, set up for power injections, and advanced imaging techniques. Calibrates and verifies operation of all equipment to be used during the day and notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions. Begins trouble-shooting process and calls service engineers when repair is indicated. Ensures appropriate storage remains available on the device during daily QC checks. Performs proper post-processing of all images including reformatting and/or DYNA CT and advanced software for overlay, needle-guidance, embo-guidance and/or FUSION. Ensures availability of previous imaging for procedures through workstation and/or Pushpage. Knowledgeable and able to operate all various ancillary equipment used in interventional procedures.
Delivers patient care under the scope of license and training. Supports procedures by maintaining aseptic conditions preparing procedure trays, associated medications, and equipment in accordance with institutional policies, including preparing patients for procedures, participating in cases, and sterile prep for procedure including following all infection control policies and Instructions for Use for associated products. Supports all role groups in handling and management of all labs and specimens obtained during IR procedures including correct labelling and appropriate delivery of samples. Uses appropriate personal protective equipment and precautions from all hazardous materials (bloodborne pathogens, radiation, etc.) as stated by unit policy and hospital authorization. Follows all hospital guidelines and policies around isolation precautions including those during aerosol generating procedures. Scrubbing in as a second operator as needed to assist the primary physician including catheter/wire management, administration of contrast, and assisting the physician to expedite the case and improve the quality of care. These practices adopted by the ASRT House of Delegates (Resolution 99-3.03, 1999).
Ensures all hospital and departmental documentation as related to the Image-guided procedure is complete and accurate in a timely manner including EPIC, Nuance, Mobile Aspects, Visage PACS, etc. Follows two-identifier patient identification process (Name, MRN, DOB). Maintains inventory tracking, utilization and replenishment within the patient's medical record through the division's Inventory management software. Validates all documentation associated with procedure. Maintains procedure area in an orderly manner, prepares equipment, and stocks room supplies for daily use. Disposes of all patient information appropriately and ensures procedure space is always prepared for urgent cases. Supports drop-off and pick-up of sterile and soiled supplies between IR, soiled utility, and/or SPD as needed while following all hospital and regulatory guidelines around transport of soiled instruments. Under the guidance of the inventory coordinator, assists with various tasks related to RFID tagging of product and stocking of medical/surgical supplies in appropriate RFID cabinets throughout the units. Performs all other duties as directed.
As a teaching hospital, technologist can oversee and instruct various personnel and technology students within the department, including precepting new staff and working closely with the IR Managers and supervisors while following the department Competency-Based Training program. Acknowledges and participates in research programs, quality assurance and other quality improvement projects carried on in the department. Remains up to date on the latest developments and trends in imaging techniques, procedures and equipment by readings, conference teachings, and seminars. Includes new technology and disposable supplies and understanding of function and usage as related to Image-guided procedures. Participates in educational programs and meets state and national requirements for continuing education credits including Radiation Protection per state guidelines.
Participates in a rotating on-call schedule for evening, weekend, and holiday coverage. Includes urgent and routine case types deemed appropriate by IR and subspecialty call-service Attending physicians.

Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Administrative Director and the Supervision of the Lead Technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures as directed by a physician, servicing patients of all ages and requiring independent judgment to apply ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. The majority of patients will be from the adult and geriatric age groups. Performs a variety of patient contact duties that may include educating patients/families to safety protocols and to routine diagnostic procedures. Utilizes Epic for patient processing and multiple system for digital capture of diagnostic images. Ensures that images are sent properly and efficiently transmitted to MGH Teleradiology for interpretation.
Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
* Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all radiographic equipment in department according to established guidelines to ensure safe and effective equipment operation.
* Provides diagnostic radiology services for patients of all ages applying principals of radiation protection and according to department policy and procedure. Contributes positively to meeting departmental goal of a retake analysis of
* Provides patient care and education essential in the performance of procedures, recognizing patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures. Correctly interprets exam requests making sure history conforms to exam requested. Maintains knowledge of emergency equipment location and code alert procedure.
* Exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures, demonstrating anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and technique selection and evaluates radiographs for technical quality. Assists physicians with imaging procedures and administration of contrast media.
* Acquires and maintains knowledge of related topics to include, but not limited to: radiation safety, contact precautions, hazardous waste disposal, interpersonal/communications skills and proper handling of requisitions, pre and post procedure.
* Participates in identified professional programs, in-service training, and department meetings.
* Assists in clerical /other areas as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Education/Degree
* Completion of formal radiologic technology training in an AMA approved school.
* Active Massachusetts license to perform radiography with preferably one year of experience.
* Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or registry eligible with successful completion of the registry within 3 months of hire.
Experience
* One year experience preferred.
* Effective verbal, electronic and written communications skills using the English language
* High level of service delivery. Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.
* Problem solving skills for treatment planning and execution taking into consideration patient's age, psychosocial, and cultural background.
* Computer proficiency. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.
Licensure
* Current and valid Massachusetts license to perform radiography.
* Current and valid ARRT credentials
Skills
* Verbal/written communication skills with the English language are necessary to understand oral and written instructions stated in radiological and medical terms in order to understand/exchange information with patients and hospital staff.
* Form/spatial perception is necessary to perceive details in x-ray to determine acceptability of exposure.

* Must demonstrate basic computer skills.

Job Summary
Responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. You will operate radiographic equipment, position patients, and capture high-quality images for interpretation by radiologists or other healthcare providers.

* Perform various diagnostic imaging procedures as ordered by physicians or other healthcare providers.

Under general supervision of the Director or Diagnostic Imaging, this position is responsible for scanning and producing a variety of computerized tomography examinations for physician interpretation and diagnosis of injury and/or disease for all patient ages.
Assists the Radiologist with all diagnostic and interventional procedures. Delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to radiation standards and guidelines set forth by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service. Performs related clerical and service duties and assists with other departments as needed.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Properly performs all CT scan examinations appropriate to the age of the patient in inpatient and/or outpatient settings, consistent with departmental and professional standards and protocols.
2. Gathers pertinent clinical data and maintains accurate patient records.
3. Accurately completes all records, paperwork and billings and submits promptly.
4. Positions and transfers patients appropriately and assists physicians with interventional exams.
5. Promptly and properly completes exams, performs QC on images and appropriately sends exams to PACS for the physicians to review.
6. Assists in maintaining an orderly inventory and in arranging the purchase of needed supplies.

Required:
1. Graduate of an accredited radiological program.
2. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) or NMTCB certified in diagnostic CT.
3. Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Required:
1. Demonstrated ability to provide quality patient care with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting, collaborating with peers to product optimum results.
2. Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients and families.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
