THE INS AND OUTS OF BECOMING A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER
THE SCHEDULE:
This position works 12-hour shifts for 12-14 days/month. You have a 3-day weekend every other week!
YOUR ROLE:
In this entry-level criminal justice position, you're vital to our jail's security and inmates' well-being. You're the backbone of our public safety operations, ensuring our facility remains secure and inmates are properly accounted for. Working closely with your team, you oversee inmate programs, recreational activities, and well-being checks. -Monitor Muscarelle Museum and grounds to ensure staff, students, visitors, and artworks are safe.
-Perform and follow opening and closing policies and procedures as required.
-Make inspections of designated priority areas on a routine basis.
-Follows protocols for incident reporting as needed.
-Ensures all doors and windows are properly secured and all building conditions are normal including accessible emergency egress.
-Reports building concerns to Museum administration and Facilities Management.

-Supervises front-line security operations in the absence of the Director of Security.

Classroom training has been extended by one full week with the addition of Crisis Intervention Training (CIT). This specialized, 40-hour law-enforcement training equips COs with effective de-escalation techniques to safely and professionally managing individuals experiencing mental health crises.
CERTIFICATIONS!
Upon successful completion of the training program, Officers earn certifications in: Crisis Intervention Training, CPR & First Aid, National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Terminal Operator, National Incident Management System (NIMS), Pepper Spray, Criminal Justice Information Service (CJIS), and Defensive Tactics - Law Enforcement Krav Maga. Possible certifications COs may earn in the future include PepperBall, Pistol, and Taser 10.
EMPHASIS ON MENTAL AND PHYSICAL WELLBEING! Annual mental health visits are provided to officers to confidentially discuss concerns or issues with a professional. Additional sessions are offered by the County for officers and family members along with access to financial resources, legal advisors, work and lifestyle support, and educational resources. The Jail has an onsite workout facility, and the County also offers gym reimbursement, wellness challenges, and health and fitness education throughout the year.
12 HOUR SHIFTS! Work 15 shifts a month and have Fri/Sat/Sun off every other week. Year-long rotations provide consistent schedules.

What You'll Do:
Assist with access control procedures at the logistics and distribution location, verifying credentials and monitoring entry and exit points to help to deter unauthorized access.
Provide customer service by carrying out security-related procedures and site-specific policies, addressing inquiries and assisting visitors and employees as needed.
Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, following established protocols for the location.
Conduct regular and random patrols around the facility and its perimeter to observe for irregularities and help to deter prohibited activity.
Document and report observations, incidents, and/or irregularities as required, maintaining accurate records in accordance with Allied Universal standards.
Collaborate with site personnel and/or local authorities during emergency response activities to support the security-related needs of the logistics and distribution location.
Minimum Requirements:
Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.

TYPE OF RECRUITMENT: External NDSCS Police Officer TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Full-time, 12-month, benefited position WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED: Anyone eligible to work in the United States JOB SUMMARY: The Police Officer at NDSCS will perform licensed law enforcement duties as an armed police officer enforcing the constitution of the United States, the laws of North Dakota, the municipal ordinances of the City of Wahpeton, and the rules and regulations of NDSCS.
Post Offer/Pre-Hire: The selected candidate must pass a physical exam including vision and hearing screenings, satisfactorily complete a psychological assessment, and must be able to satisfactorily demonstrate their abilities to meet minimum qualifications.
Post Hire: The selected individual must pass a qualifying shooting course per department standards as a condition of continued employment.

Minimum Requirements

* North Dakota Peace Officers License or eligibility to be licensed within North Dakota upon employment

* Demonstrated knowledge of the Clery Act, Title IX, and the Violation Against Women's Act (VAWA)
