    Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility: Is responsible for carrying out the goals and mission of Bethel University and the Department of Safety and Security. This person is responsible for patrolling, securing, and protecting the university campus to ensure a safe work and educational environment for all students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors. This position is for the main campus in McKenzie, Tennessee; however, officers may be required to perform duties at off-campus properties or other campus locations. Under the general direction of Dean of Students. Under the direct supervision of Chief of Security. Responsible for 1 shift, 8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Incumbents are subject to overtime as deemed necessary. Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities: * Engage in direct interactions and building relationships with the campus community, including students, staff, and faculty to encourage a safe and positive campus environment. * Conduct regular and random patrols around the campus and through campus facilities, by vehicle and on foot, and maintain alertness for any signs of abnormal conditions or unusual activities. * Responsible for locking and unlocking of facilities in accordance with department procedures. * Ability to analyze and respond to incidents and other critical situations firmly and professionally using problem solving, critical-thinking, and de-escalation techniques, when applicable. * Be of good moral character, possess excellent communication skills, and be highly organized and able to multi-task and prioritize duties and responsibilities. * Respond to general calls for assistance and other related tasks. * Complete required computer work in accordance with department procedures, including shift notes, incident and accident reports, parking citations, and reviewing surveillance cameras. * Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.     The Patrol Officer (Police Officer 1) supports students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors by monitoring activity on campus for the purpose of maintaining peace and enforcing laws and supports the college by ensuring a safe educational and work environment. TCAT Henry-Carroll, McKenzie Campus is the home campus for this position. However, officers may be required to occasionally perform duties and functions at other DSCC or TCAT campuses. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs foot and vehicle patrols of campus to preserve the peace and enforce the rules and regulations of the college, state, federal and local laws, directs and manages vehicular traffic, secures and unlocks campus areas as needed. Responds to calls for service; investigates motor vehicle incidents, criminal offenses, and non-criminal incidents; and takes appropriate law enforcement or investigative action. Monitors and reviews security camera recordings to assist in investigations and to ensure safety for the campus community.
