Job Description The Residential Monitor is responsible for monitoring the ongoing operation of the Transitional Housing Program and facility to always ensure adequate supervision and safety. Maintain chronological written records of events that occur during the shift and document any unusual occurrences in the facility logbook. Complete statistical reports, daily census reports, incident reports and additional reports or forms deemed necessary. Monitor resident and visitor movements inside and outside the facility. Control contraband in the facility through general observation; this may include conducting searches as directed by the Program Director. Randomly tour the facility and grounds at least hourly to ensure a high level of security; document these rounds in the facility logbook. Supervise the completion of daily chores by residents. Ensure residents observe all fire and other safety measures. Ensure all resident medications are stored in separate, labeled containers in a locked medication cabinet at the front desk. Control access to this cabinet, and ensure residents document the dosage they take in the medication log. Participate and obtain certification in crisis management and first aid/CPR. Answer incoming calls in a prompt and professional manner. Immediately notify on-call staff of any emergency situations. Assist in the serving of meals and maintenance of the facility as needed. Comply with and enforce specified regulations and requirements as outlined in Volunteers of America's policies and procedures and the Transitional Housing Operations Manual. Reports any malfunctions and participate in equipment maintenance; Notifies supervisor immediately when a serious incident occurs and to forward all others the next working day; Maintains post directives as assigned by the Site Administrators; Works to identify areas that are in need of safety for specific purposes; Performs other duties as required. Educational Background High School Diploma or equivalency required; Minimum of 2 years of law enforcement experience or comparable private security experience; POST certification or higher required Authorization to carry a firearm required; Experience working in a school setting is strongly preferred; Certification in first aid preferred; Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License. Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Eligibility or completion of a major law enforcement academy preferred; Expertise in area of specialization; Knowledge of law enforcement, security and safety practices; Must possess excellent writing and verbal skills; Physical ability to affect arrest under difficult circumstances; Post certification preferred; Must pass drug screening test; All applicants must be able to work flexible hours and workday assignment; Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations; Physical fitness and the ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
