ASSIGNMENT: 10 Month GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This work involves supervising the behavior of students outside the classroom, assisting the teachers with immediate disciplinary problems in the classroom, promoting the well-being and safety of students, and providing assistance and direction to campus visitors. There is considerable contact with students, staff, parents and the general public. Must be tactful, use fairness and independent judgment when dealing with a variety of problems and emergency situations experienced by students and visitors. The employee must also exercise initiative in keeping informed of procedures and policies. An employee in this position works within clearly established systems and procedures, must exhibit organizational skills and exercise independent judgment and confidentiality in the performance of duties. The Campus Safety must exhibit initiative and embrace a collaborative team approach to accomplish the mission of the district. QUALIFICATIONS: * Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. * Must have physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials, and office equipment up to 40 lbs. * Must sit at workstation for extended periods of time and/or move frequently from workstation to various other areas of building. * Must organize and prioritize workflow. * Must be proficient in the use of computers, office practices, procedures and office equipment. * Must project a positive image of the district to students, staff and the general public as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude. * Must demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills, and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public. * Must have awareness of a variety of student needs, including physical and social emotional needs. * Must hold a valid driver's license. * Must complete district approved Crisis Prevention Institute training (CPI). * Must have physical ability to move about frequently and quickly throughout the school campus. * Must have possession of a valid Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/AED Certification or equivalent. POSITION EXPECTATIONS: 1. Assisting in the efficient and effective functioning of the school including, but not limited to: a. supporting school safety and district crisis plans. b. responding to emergency or crisis situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns. c. promoting a safe school environment by observing and reporting behavior of students, parents and visitors on school property. d. promoting a clean school environment and ensures that school policies and procedures are followed school wide by supervising student's behavior outside of the classrooms. e. assisting visitors by helping them obtain a visitor's pass and directing them to the appropriate location. f. supporting and supervising students in non-academic settings. g. assisting students who appear ill, distraught, or otherwise needy, by contacting parents or appropriate school personnel and referring to the appropriate services. h. promoting a clean school environment and correcting student misperceptions of others by modeling appropriate behavior and/or talking to the students. i. assisting the DHSSSW and School Resource Officer in escorting students to and from various locations. 2. Works at multiple campus locations; follows the various protocols of each campus. Projects a professional image and pleasant personality at all times. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Maintain high visibility on campus locations; act professionally and exhibit a pleasant personality in public. 2. Assist students, staff and visitors; create a customer friendly environment; make suggestions to improve customer service. 3. Monitor the campus for building and patron safety; advise appropriate personnel of situations and/or take appropriate actions. Ask unauthorized individuals to leave the building/grounds; advise on parking violations. 4. Open and close the buildings, individual offices and classrooms and other rooms; report and lock doors. 5. Escort patrons to their vehicles upon request; assist with jump starting disabled vehicles, locked keys in vehicle, etc. 6. Make routine patrols of parking areas and advise on lighting, overnight vehicles, issue parking violations and unsafe or unusual conditions. Report and prepare accident/incident reports. Make safety inspections. 7. Maintain a working knowledge of all campus facilities and operations, campus staff and their vehicles, and sources of information dissemination. Assist with the administration of college policies and regulations. 8. Monitor ingress and egress of the campus; question patrons regarding removal of property from premises; report theft. 9. May respond to all requests for assistance and emergency calls depending on the nature of the emergency situations, assist campus and local police and fire authorities. 10. Direct traffic as needed for graduations or other special events. 11. Serve as a trainer and mentor for new Campus Safety Officer; assist in the training of evacuation plan sector leaders. Assess training efforts and advise on areas of improvement during post training analysis. 12. Cross train to work dispatch center as needed. Process emergency requests for service and dispatch emergency police, fire and other public safety equipment. 13. Participate in achieving departmental and college goals and objectives. 14. Assist in management of any public health matter where enhanced PPE State mandates are in effect or ordered by the state, college or designee. 15. Obtain and maintain required certifications as required by the college or designee. 16. Assume other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Must be 18 years of age and have a High School diploma or equivalent. 2. Must pass a complete personal and criminal background check. 3. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate cars and 15 passenger vans. 4. Must be able to walk stairs and conduct prolonged foot patrol indoors and out in all weather conditions. 5. Must be able to assist with the rescue of injured or ill persons or the arrest of criminal offenders. 6. Must be able to work varying shifts at all Joliet Junior College campuses. 7. Must be willing to be trained in CPR, AED, first aid and other emergency response as needed. 8. May be required to cross-train to operate the Dispatch Center. 9. Must successfully complete in-house, field training program. 10. May be required complete training in the use of O.C. spray, expandable baton and handcuffing and arrest procedures if required by Chief of Police. 11. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence. 12.
