    Cardiac sonographer job at UNC Health Care

    The Cardiac Sonographer performs echocardiography, stress echoes, and assists with transesophageal echoes and dobutamine echoes on both inpatient and outpatients at Wayne UNC Health Care in an effective and efficient manner. Responsibilities: 1. Provides general patient care during the performance of a procedure. Prepares the necessary supplies and equipment for the performance of the echocardiographic exam. 2. Evaluates patient's condition by reviewing the patient's record and documents pertinent information for the echocardiographic procedure by thoroughly explaining procedures to the patients. 3. Performs two-dimensional, M-Mode, Doppler, and color flow echocardiographic examinations and assists the cardiologist in performing transesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography, and Dobutamine echocardiography. 4. Analyzes and evaluates results of echocardiographic exams. 5. Ensures efficient and proper functioning of echocardiographic equipment. Takes appropriate action for equipment needing repair or maintenance. 6. Provides instructions and consultations to providers and other healthcare teammates. 7. Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements. 8. Actively participates in teammate meetings and on committees as requested. 9. Participates in performance improvement activities. 10. Presents and promotes a professional demeanor at all times, establishes high standards of customer service, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems. 11. Demonstrates appropriate interaction with and provides recommended care and services to all patients. Exhibits knowledge and basic understanding regarding the needs of neonatal, adolescent, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and the cultural needs of all patients. 12. Applies knowledge of principles of standard precautions. Routinely uses PPE to avoid risk of exposure to self and others. WAYNE Other information: Education - Graduate of an AMA recognized cardiac ultrasound program, cardiopulmonary or cardiovascular technology program. - High school diploma required. Licensure/Certification - Registered in cardiac sonography with the American Registry of Diagnostics preferred. - BLS certification required, or obtained within 1 year of employment. Experience - At least one year experience in performing echoes. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Considerable knowledge of the procedures, material, and equipment needed to perform transesophageal, stress and dobutamine echoes. - Knowledge of the care and use of the echo equipment. - Good interpersonal and customer service skills. - Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English. - Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly. - Ability to stand and walk on hard surfaces for duration of shift. - Ability to work in a confined work area in a dark room with bright lights.
