Physical therapist assistant job at UNC Health Care

Performs a wide variety of skilled physical therapy treatments for patients based upon the physical therapy evaluations and goals completed by the physicaltherapist. Advances the patient's treatment plan in response to the patient's progress. Assists with discharge planning.
These positions primarily provide weekend inpatient coverage at the Smithfield campus, with occasional coverage at the Clayton campus.
Responsibilities:
1. Contributes to various interdisciplinary team meetings to plan for patient needs, discuss family education plans, and discharge plans.
2. Precepts PT technicians or other physicaltherapistassistants and evaluate the learner's competency per department guidelines.
3. Documents patient treatment and progress toward goals. Completes department records for billing and statistics.
4. Instructs physical therapy and physicaltherapistassistant students.
5. Provides skilled physical therapy treatments to a wide variety of patients. Designs and teach exercise program to meet PT goals. Fits and teaches patient to use ambulatory devices including braces, walkers, canes, crutches safely to negotiate stairs, curbs, and unlevel ground. Teaches patient airway clearance techniques and perform chest PT procedures. Instructs patient and family in home exercises, ambulation, and use of adaptive equipment for discharge.
6. Participation - Contributes to quality of clinical services through attendance and participation in departmental meetings and in-services.
7. Quality-Contributes to quality of clinical services through maintenance of valid & reliable records of patient procedures & progress. Participates in quality improvement initiatives with the clinical specialist and other healthcare professionals. Participates in continuous quality improvement efforts in conjunction with the department director

Supporting our Enhanced Rehabilitation program in the acute hospital setting, the PTA will provide skilled therapeutic interventions to a diverse pation population with varying acuity levels. This person will collaborate directly with the interdisciplinary team to provide exceptional patient-centered care.
The selected candidate will serve as a stakeholder, assisting in the implementation and sustainment of unit based care team models to optimize patient care outcomes and best practices. Excellent time management and communication skills are required for this fast paced environment; clinical experience in acute care is strongly preferred. A strong work ethic and growth oriented mindset are essential characteristics for interested applicants.
The selected candidate will work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend and holiday coverage.

The selected candidate will work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend and holiday coverage.
Responsibilities:
1. Contributes to various interdisciplinary team meetings to plan for patient needs, discuss family education plans, and discharge plans.
2. Precepts PT technicians or other physicaltherapistassistants and evaluate the learner's competency per department guidelines.
3. Documents patient treatment and progress toward goals. Completes department records for billing and statistics.
4. Instructs physical therapy and physicaltherapistassistant students.
5. Provides skilled physical therapy treatments to a wide variety of patients. Designs and teach exercise program to meet PT goals. Fits and teaches patient to use ambulatory devices including braces, walkers, canes, crutches safely to negotiate stairs, curbs, and unlevel ground. Teaches patient airway clearance techniques and perform chest PT procedures. Instructs patient and family in home exercises, ambulation, and use of adaptive equipment for discharge.
6. Participation - Contributes to quality of clinical services through attendance and participation in departmental meetings and in-services.
7. Quality-Contributes to quality of clinical services through maintenance of valid & reliable records of patient procedures & progress. Participates in quality improvement initiatives with the clinical specialist and other healthcare professionals. Participates in continuous quality improvement efforts in conjunction with the department director

Summary:
The Licensed Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant implements treatment plans developed and supervised by a Licensed Occupational Therapist and provides input regarding patient's response to treatment and progress, in an attempt to prevent disability following disease/injury, while helping the patient reach his/her maximum performance while learning to live within the limits of his/her capabilities.
Responsibilities:
1. Assists OTR/L with patient evaluations, and provides input with respect to treatment plans.
2. Implements assigned aspects of the treatment plan.
3. Participates in the evaluation of the treatment plan.
4. When determined competent, performs all physical therapy procedures approved for the position, and as detailed in the position's Skills Checklist.
5. Communicates with patients or their representatives.
6. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development over the entire life span of a patient.
7. Communicates with team members, physicians and other care providers regarding occupational therapy.
8. Provides Oversight and guidance to non-licensed personnel, new employees and students.
Other information:
1. Graduation from an accredited program for Occupational Therapy Assistants.
2. Current North Carolina license as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
3. Current BCLS certification.
