ECMO Specialist

Under the direction of the Respiratory Therapy management and according to UNCH and departmental policies and procedures, the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Specialist is responsible for all aspects of monitoring and troubleshooting the ECMO circuit and related equipment during the treatment period. The ECMO Specialist is also responsible for collaborating with bedside RNs, physicians, and other members of the health care team to coordinate care for these very complex patients.
Responsibilities:
1. Planning and Managing Care - According to UNCH and department standards, and utilizing unique knowledge regarding extracorporeal circulation and its effects on the body, independently uses and documents effective planning, deliverance and evaluation of goal focused, individualized safe age and culture-specific care for all patients. Works in conjunction with the bedside nurse to ensure that the patient on ECMO has adequate end organ perfusion, maintains acid base balance and hemodynamic stability within ordered parameters, has adequate oxygenation and ventilation, along with maintaining other parameters as ordered by the ECMO service.
2. Continuum of Care Planning - Consistently role models the coordination of comprehensive, age and culture specific continuum of care planning for all patients and families. Using available internal resources and systems, consults with healthcare team providing complete and appropriate information for complex continuum of care planning.
3. Patient and Family Education - Independently develops, evaluates and revises individualized, age and culture-specific teaching plans for all patients and families.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems and utilizes problem solving skills to participate in finding solutions to resolve problems, following through to implement solutions. Role models the use of the problem solving process.
5. Communication and Collaboration - Clearly and efficiently communicates significant information from one level or location of care and/or from one caregiver to another. Monitors denial work queues and reports in accordance with assignments from direct supervisor and communicates all denial trends, denial increases, etc. to direct supervisor/PFS management in order to positively affect the volume of denials. Participates in departmental huddles and team meetings involving discussion of A/R processes and denial trends.
Maintains required levels of productivity and quality while managing tasks in work queues to ensure timeliness of follow-up and appeals.
Organizes denial/rejection related tasks to identify patterns and/or work most efficiently (e.g., by current procedural terminology, diagnosis, payer, etc.)
Identifies and monitors negative patterns in denials/rejections. Escalates accordingly to PFS management and the impacted department(s) to avoid negative impact on reimbursement, unsuccessful appeals, and/or increased write-offs.
Uses identified and known resources to accomplish follow-up on tasks. Identifies other means and resources to complete tasks, as applicable and appropriate. As needed, participates in A/R clean-up projects or other projects identified by direct supervisor or PFS management.
Comply with all government regulatory mandated requirements for billing and collections.
Works with other departments to resolve A/R and payer issues. Communicates with other departments on issues that may have negative impact on their cash flow, timely claim reconsideration/filing, failed appeals, and/or increased denials and write-offs.

We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced audiologist to provide audiology services to pediatric and adult patients in an inpatient and outpatient setting. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
* Administer basic and complex diagnostic evaluations to assess auditory, vestibular, and related conditions in patients of all ages
* Analyze and interpret results of diagnostic testing to establish patient goals and manage subsequent treatment programs
* Behavioral and electrophysiologic assessment of infants and young children
o Newborn Hearing Screenings (NICU & OP setting), ABRs under natural sleep as well as under sedation (in conjunction with MRI, Procedure or Surgery)
* Hearing aid fitting and verification using real ear measures
* Counsel and communicate with patients and families regarding hearing loss and its implications, and establishing goals and treatment programs
* This position does not include working with or programming of cochlear implants.
Clear communication with multiple providers to maximize patient outcomes is critical. Experience in the assessment and audiologic management of infants and young children with hearing loss is required. Must be comfortable with clinical teaching and student supervision associated with employment in a leading academic medical center. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience working in an academic medical center or children's hospital in collaboration with otolaryngologists and related professionals. Must have a doctoral degree in Audiology (AuD). Requires current NC Audiology license or eligibility for license. Hours and schedule may vary depending on clinic needs. Estimate work hours to range 8-24 hours/week.
Responsibilities:
1. Contribute to quality of clinical services, including maintenance of valid and reliable records of patient procedures and progress, promotion of quality assurance initiatives, studies and surveys in specialty areas, conference with physicians regarding evaluation, treatment, and progress of patients, and provision of intramural and extramural in-services in areas of expertise.
2. Develop new clinical programs within Audiology to meet emerging needs by surveying and evaluating market trends, assembling technical hardware/software components, and developing programmatic infrastructure through accepted channels. Promote new program through professional public speaking and regional publicity.
3. Provide basic and complex diagnostic tests of conductive, sensori-neural, mixed and central auditory impairments using audiometry, impedance, otoscopy, emissions, and ABR. Performs ABR and cochlear implant-related electrophysiological testing in OR environment.
4. Provide hearing screening and full diagnostic hearing procedures for neonatal population
5. Provide programming of cochlear implant speech processors and provide auditory rehabilitation services to cochlear implant patients.
6. Serve as consultant to NC government departments and statewide health professionals in specialty area.
7. Teach and supervise Audiology and Speech Pathology students, ENT residents and other students or staff. Provide intra/extramural in-services.

**Responsibilities** :

Pre-Arrival Specialist

The Comprehensive Pre-Arrival Specialist II works with a multi-disciplinary team that supports all processes around financially clearing patients before their arrival. This position is reviews and processes all required procedures for clearing patients prior to their scheduled event. This role assists with monitoring, reporting, and communication of department-specific and payer trends in order to optimize overall revenue cycle performance and reimbursements while complying with federal, state and payer specific requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Verifies insurance information that may have not been completed during the pre-registration/scheduling process to ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory bodies. Assists in the training of staff and documents results via PAU Orientation Checklist. Audits team member's workflow for accuracy and documents findings to Management.
- Reviews providers' orders and notes for key elements and processes them via Electronic Medical Recordkeeping (EMR) system workflow. Contacts provider offices, payers and/or payer websites to secure and validate authorization information.
- Performs POS Collection functions (primarily in conjunction with the pre-registration process). Using defined workflows, contacts the patient with estimated financial liability and presents options for payment as directed. Collects payment and posts to EPIC.
- Performs post-procedure and post-clinic care audits. Organizes and facilitates education for provider and clinic staff on improving revenue optimization based on audit. Participates in the day-to-day implementation and optimization of Epic Optimization opportunities. Collaborates with appropriate Billing Specialist on addressing operational revenue improvement opportunities with providers and clinic staff of complex patient procedure audit findings.
