Job Description
This position is involved in the review and appraisal of applications for insurance placement . Uses knowledge and independent judgment to determine eligibility of risks when compared to guidelines of programs available. Interacts with Companies and Brokers via telephone, e-mail, regular mail and personal contact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews applications for insurance coverage, reports from loss control consultants and other information to determine if application is acceptable for the program(s) available.
Evaluate the experience of a risk against the class of business under review.
Evaluate the loss potential due to catastrophe, severity, and/or frequency.
May rate policies or check previously rated policies for proper rating.
Utilizes knowledge of automated systems to develop information for new or renewal policies.
Prepares quotations for agents and answers questions from agents, policyholder, or prospects.
Assists agents with comments or questions about applications and the likelihood of acceptance by the company.
Reviews requests for cancellation, endorsements, etc.
Reviews policies for renewal consideration.
Request additional documentation necessary for the processing of an application, endorsement or cancellation.
Conduct marketing visits to agents.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Must have Producer's License.
3 plus years of insurance experience.
Prior exposure to insurance underwriting type activities.
Basic familiarity with computers.
Good oral and written communications skills.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to pay attention to details.
Resourceful and controlled assertive behavior characteristics.
Must have demonstrated negotiation skills
Technical knowledge of insurance coverage forms and their application to exposure.
Knowledge of departmental regulations and policies.

Strong interpersonal skills working with Staff and Company Underwriters

Responsibilities
A Credit Underwriter III is responsible for spreading complex financial statements in accordance with Bank standards, while preparing Credit Offering Memorandums on complex borrowers in cooperation with Commercial Lenders for Bank approval. It is the responsibility of an Underwriter III to manage personal workload of complex borrowing relationships within short, prescribed timelines with minimal assistance from a Senior Underwriter/Manager. Making recommendations to Commercial Lenders regarding appropriate risk ratings as well as accurately addressing loan policy exceptions, structural weaknesses, appraisal exceptions, environmental waivers and loan coding are important duties of the position. A Credit Underwriter III is also responsible for providing guidance and on the job training to Credit Underwriter I's and II's.

Maintain extensive knowledge of and demonstrate ongoing compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to this position, ensure ongoing adherence to pertinent policies, procedures, and internal controls and meet all job specific training requirements in a timely fashion.

About this position:
Responsible for underwriting and presenting residential loan applications, analyzing supporting documentation and making appropriate decision recommendations which comply with operating policies and procedures established for the real estate lending function. This position requires a regular, scheduled presence at our Glens Falls, New York headquarters. The schedule is hybrid optional, but candidates must be able to easily commute to Glens Falls, New York for required office days. This role is not a fully remote opportunity.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
> Analyze income and credit worthiness to determine applicant ability and willingness to repay.
> Review and analyze income documentation, appraisal reports and other documentation for adequacy and compliance with Bank, secondary market, regulatory and other third-party guidelines.
> Work directly with other Company personnel, closing attorneys, and real estate appraisers to ensure that files are complete and documented adequately prior to closing.
> Assist with administration of construction loans by making recommendations regarding builder approval, construction advance schedules and draw requests.
> Support other business units for quality control, audit and compliance support as requested, by reviewing pre-closing and/or post-closing residential loan file data and documentation.
> Prepare, review and reconciles reports as requested.

Education/Certifications:
> Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience required
> Advanced Degree, certification, or license preferred

> Solid problem solving, organizational and analytical skills; ability to extract and interpret information from multiple sources
> Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; comfortable communicating with customers, co-workers, management, and other third parties
> Thorough knowledge of underwriting, all mortgage products, and current lending regulations
> Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook as well as banking-related software
Physical Demands:
