WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? The role of the Underwriter III is to evaluate the credit risk against company standards and to determine the borrower's ability to repay a residential mortgage. The Underwriter III analyzes and interprets the most complex financial and non-financial data decisioning the requests with the goal of achieving the optimal quality asset for the bank while satisfying the needs of borrower. The Underwriter III is also responsible for LLCs along with other complex borrower types. The Underwriter III works within established lending authorities and guidelines, with complex or unusual situations escalated to the next highest authority level for resolution. This includes mentoring and training of Underwriters I and II including second level reviews.
What you will do
* Reviews the loan package received to ensure completeness verifying that all supporting documents are included to make a credit decision per established policies
* Identifies issues and recommends appropriate resolution within policy service level agreements
* Analyzes and determines the financial capacity of the borrower's ability to repay:
* Performs credit analysis, financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, liquidity qualification and payment calculation spreads
* Reviews for stability of residency and employment
* Verifies income per established policy
* Identifies any exceptions to current policies
* Documents a reasonable conclusion mitigating any identified risks supporting the request will be repaid
* Accurately sets and clears conditions
* Interacts with RLC and Processor throughout the life cycle of the loan, providing information, updates and assistance as required
* Updates System(s) with pertinent information and appropriate data as required
* Renders a decision within his/her lending authority. If deal is outside of lending authority, provides a recommended decision and submits for appropriate level signing authority
* Originates appropriate client letters; Commitment, Counter Offer, Declination
* Certifies and provides a final Workbook to the Processor
* Ensures compliance with bank and statutory/regulatory guidelines

Summary
The Centralized Commercial Lending - Renewal Team is searching for a Commercial Underwriter II responsible for evaluating business loan applications based on established Bank policies and procedures. Candidate will evaluate the merits of an existing loan request in the $1MM-$3MM range of total exposure, and either recommend a decision to a senior credit officer or use their own authority to decision the application.
Key Responsibilities
Review cash flows and Moody's spreads either self-prepared or prepared by the Credit Analyst, conduct in-depth analyses of financial information to form a recommendation of approval or denial of new loans in accordance with the Bank's policy and procedures. Prepare Credit Origination Memorandum in a clearly written concise manner, identifying strengths, risks and mitigating factors. Review, analyze and evaluate financial and pertinent data to determine credit worthiness of loan prospects and merits of specific loan requests. Collaborate with Relationship Managers, leaders and Relationship Managers to gather all necessary information to present an accurate and complete assessment of the loan presented.
Ability to prepare high quality, detailed credit approval documents that contain an in-depth analysis, an understanding of and identification of credit issues and risks. Ability to spread and interpret financial statements, tax returns, and projections using Excel.
Ability to provide recommendations on loan structuring and alternative structures that may be more appropriate for the transaction.
Ability to work in a high-volume environment, meeting or exceeding Service Level Agreements and turn time goals throughout the process, providing credit decisions in a timely manner.
Work independently on special projects related to credit topics and issues as requested by Bank Credit team(s).
Support the Bank's strong relationship banking culture through on-going internal partner contact, quality customer service, and superior product knowledge. Understand and adhere to the Bank's Bank Secrecy Act policy and procedures and "know your customer/enhanced due diligence" guidelines. Brings any suspicious activity to the attention of a supervisor, or the Bank Secrecy Act Officer. Follow all Bank policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree required for consideration or equivalent combination of education and experience
Three (3) to five (5) years of commercial credit underwriting experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Training/Systems
Fundamental understanding of commercial credit underwriting.
Ability to interact with all levels of clients, staff and management.

Responsibilities
Currently seeking a Small Commercial UW. Within delegated authority levels, evaluate (selection and pricing) and maintain (control) risk acceptability and profitability within the company's underwriting guidelines and procedures for commercial risks. Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
* Technical Underwriting - Solicits and reviews new and renewal account information required to evaluate a risk. Identifies all potential exposures and hazards in relation to coverage requested and individual and program risk characteristics. Assesses insurance and related financial risk in order to structure appropriate captive programs to effectively protect against frequency, severity, catastrophic and credit risk. Engage other internal resources as necessary. Underwrites, prices and prepares proposals within authority and with necessary input of Arch Actuarial, Credit and Alt Market team. Prepares program binders and presents to captive manager/producer and or prospective insured. Coordinates all administrative duties related to existing and prospective accounts.
* Account Management - Quarterbacks all pre and post bind activities including policy production, compliance issues, audits and adjustments, legal agreements, receipt of collateral, legal agreement execution, TPA coordination and any other related items. Together with internal team members, takes responsibility to deliver promised service to customers. Responsible for the renewal and retention management and manages the renewal process to achieve targeted retention and price change goals. Initiates, coordinates and conducts a mid term account review.
* Client Management - Develops and maintains relationships with producers and insured's to achieve overall production and profitability goals. Meets with producers and insureds to discuss individual account issues, uncover critical customer needs and financial buying characteristics. Develops a strategic plan for positioning and selling Arch at both the producer and the insured level. Engages and introduces other team members or management team as appropriate. Develops and maintains relationships with producers to generate a flow of qualified submissions.
* Administrative - Responsible for all underwriting and policy file documentation which is in compliance with Arch's internal audit process. Completes ad hoc projects as assigned by management.
Required Skills and Abilities:
* Understanding and knowledge of the intent, scope and purpose of the Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Automobile coverage forms and endorsements with the ability to tailor to the sold captive program design.
* Possess a thorough understanding of loss sensitive programs, excess & surplus lines programs.
* An understanding of captive programs is desired, but not required. This would include products, pricing, expensing, actuarial loss projecting techniques, retention and aggregate setting, limit profiles, ALAE, credit risk, and effective utilization of facultative reinsurance.
